The local gendarmerie has noticed that my car does not have a license plate on the front. While he was very cool about it he did make it clear that I need a plate. Does anyone have a picture of the 355 with a front Plate? If its really ugly I'll have to go to Plan B

That looks quite reasonable but in the states we have a hard metal rectangle. I saw someone do that sort of thing with a metal plate but they had to drill through the car to do it. I've heard that the factory bracket for U.S. cars covers the damn horse!

Are you sure they ENFORCE it ? In Nevada it is Illegal, but NOT enforced.I have 3 different Sports Cars, NO Front Plates !

I'd talk to other "Constable On Patrols" & get their feedback, before Ruining your 355.

yeah, they actually do enforce it and our firm represents two of the local police unions so I have to try to obey the law, as distasteful as it may be

just curious what is the $ penalty or is it a question of improper display and requirement of showing proof of plate in court?

Tell 'em that mounting a plate would require drilling into the fascia, reducing the value of a very special vehicle. The 355 is way too pretty to cover up in any way.

You can store your car down here in Charlottesville -- I haven't had front plates on any sports cars since 1999 and have never been bothered. Guess they need the revenue up in NoVa...

I have been nailed 3 times in 6 years in NOVA. Always by the State Troopers, never the locals. I kindly ask them if they could somehow fing a better use of their time and my tax dollars and they say sign here!

Here in CA they enforce it and I am convinced it is to aid with identification of vehicles that run red lights at intersections equipped with the automatic cameras. They like to capture your face and your front plate in one shot. So far I have been lucky.

In southern Oregon one town adopted red light cameras and speed vans; then just so happened to crack down on front plates shortly there after...

The one I saw actually bent the plate around the lower bumper and riveted (!) it in place. It was frightful to see. Now you have disfigured the plate, which is illegal as well. I cannot see any way to do this on a 355. On the 348, u can fabricate a holder under the driver's side fog lap, but putting it on the passenger's side blocks the brake duct.

Will they let you display it in the windshield - just slide it down on the passenger's side when you take the car out?

CA law is to require front and back plates, however, there is a tolerence for certain cars where this cannot be done practically, such as Porsches, Corvettes, Lamborghinis and Ferraris.

A little something that someone over on AudiWorld devised.....

    http://forums.audiworld.com/s4b7/msgs/18685.phtml

Several have done it, and had good luck with it. Might give something similar a try, or as another suggested a while back - Velcro on a through-the-grill type mount. Easy on, easy off, when situation/opportunity dictates.

Sacramento, and I believe all of California, has made the second ticket an infraction with a fine, and not a fix-it ticket.

ya know that fake grille on the F355 allows for all kinds of 007 type installations.
