I need to have my 360 spider inspected in MA (just registered it last week). I have the rear license plate on the car, but is the front license plate also required to be mounted to the car to pass inspection? Any suggested service stations that might help me out with this delemma.

I do not even see holes for mounting a plate up front - what have others done in this regard? Is the lack of a front plate just asking to be pulled over in MA?

I have had my 328 inspected twice without it and never been a problem. Also I was caught speeding by a local policeman on a country lane doing 75 in a 30, he clocked me @ 48 due to me seeing him and breaking however he saw me decelerate as I saw him coming at me head on. Guy just stopped and turned his lights on I did the same and we are looking at each other going the opposite direction in the middle of the road - him 60ish in his cruiser, me early 30’s in my blood red Ferrari. “IN A RUSH…..DO YOU KNOW HOW FAST YOU WHERE GOING” COP “Yes sir I was speeding going around 45 miles per hour” ME………”Slow down these fines aren’t cheap” COP “thank you sir as my heart rate began to slow down” ME

He never said anything about the plate.

I don't have an answer for you. But I got pull over sunday in N.Y. for no front plate. He let me go after I showed my PBA card. It's a problem with these cars but like I told the officer if this was your car would you drll holes in the front bumper. He didn't answer me. My suggestion to you is, if you have a regular mechanic for your other cars see if he'll give you the inspection and look the other way on the front plate. But sooner or later we'll all get pinched . Good luck.

Yes, it is part of the required inspection list. Yes, some garages will hassle you for it and will refuse to pass you without it. Some will be more lenient. If you're worried, just use some wire to secure it to your front grille before the inspection.

my local shop that takes care of my daily drivers used to do my f-car and p-car inspections without any drama about front plates. but they liked me and know me well.

all you really need to do is to drop a couple strings from inside the luggage compartment and leave the stupid thing hanging down. if you want to be extra-careful, get some of that blue stick-tack putty and stick it to the bumper to be removed post-inspection.

if you make any sort of effort, the inspection station will call it "okay", ime.

I have no front plate on my car - its been inspected that way, no problem. On a 308, I dare any officer to locate a spot for one that does not do $3,000 in damage, nor block airflow to the radiator. I will NOT block airflow to the radiator for a stupid license plate - you're just begging for trouble doing that. You can always velcro it to the bottom of your spoiler, and make the cop get on his hands and knees to 'inspect' it if they ask.....

    state laws be damned....

    ;)

when (not if) you do get cited for no front plate, i'd humbly suggest you take a more conciliatory tone with the officer than what you've outlined herein :) .

Hey, I view it as a technical issue - "Show me where to put it, officer, where:
    1. You can see it 2. You don't damage my car installing it 3. You don't damage my engine after its installed" If the State can do that, I'd be more than happy to put it on....I'll keep it in the car if they'd like to brainstorm that with me on the side of a busy interstate.

Patentman - Dennis gave you the answer to your question - simply tie the plate to your grill for inspection purposes. After that , store your front plate and ties somewhere in the car and if you get stopped, simply tie them on to the grill until you are out of sight of the cops.

I have been pulled over on 495 in my GT3 not speeding my a State Trooper for having no front plate. I keep it in the "bonnett" and pulled it out when he asked. They can ticket you no doubt, but I think what is more relevant is it is cause for a traffic stop.

I'm in NH and it is also required. My garage doesn't make me mount it. Plate is on front dash for inspection and then goes behind the seat. I got pulled over once for not having it, but by the time he came up to the car I put it in the front window. He let me go and said "Oh there's your plate. I didn't see it." He then proceeded to tell me this was the first Ferrari he ever pulled over. He said everybody probably thinks you were speeding. Seemed like a big thrill for him. So you might get hassled but it is worth not messing up such a pretty front end.

i tended to keep mine within arm's reach within the car. in the f-cars, the mesh behind the seats is great - the officer can see it when he comes to the window. i've been pulled over for not having a front plate. the officers in both cases said that the concern was primarily that i was in possession of both plates so one wasn't being used 'improperly'. having it easily accessible or on display alleviates their concern.

I have a station that will pass it without issue. Shoot me a pm and I will give you the information and contact info. They pass all my client's cars without fail and none of them run a front plate.
