I've been ticket a few times in the Gallardo, before I velcro'd one on. I was actually pulled over while driving and ticketed. That was the only thing he wrote me for in Oak Brook. I went to court to show documentation that Lambo doesn't even make one and brought the front diagram that the parts department copied for me. I even brought a picture of the plate on the front of the Gallardo. It irritated the judge so much he tacked on another $50.00 to my $150 fine. I hear costs went up even more this year for no front plate.
Mail in the fee!!!!! You will incure court costs by showing up in person!!! I found out the hard way. Dave with his silver Gallardo had gotten a ticket with his car being parked right outside of his office in Des Plaines. Now you know why my Murci has a velcro'd front plate on it!!! It's looks riduculous, but it beats getting pulled over all the time.

I'm curious how much was the ticket?

Sounds like the police are being told to generate revenue for their towns in any way they can.

Exact same thing happened to me about five years ago. Parked my M3 in front of the Adler Planetarium, got two tickets within three minutes, ridiculous! I paid one and contested the second with a letter attached. Never received any further notices.

I was pulled over recently on 294 by Lake Cook Road by a STATE TROOPER.
I was going pretty fast, but lucky for me, it was really late/early (about 3am), but I was coming home from work and she felt sorry for me. Believe it or not she ran my info and let me go... a state trooper!

but... after handing me back my license and reg., she walked around to the front of the car to check the front plate (none there) and told me to get it fixed!
    (have not and will not....)

must be the "new thing" in "law enforcement"

I would at least protest being able to have two identical tickets written within 24 hours. I know in the city they can't do that unless it's for a meter violation.

I've owned cars with no front plate for years and was only stopped once. It was 6-7 years ago on 355 and the state trooper told me it was a 'pet peeve' of his. He ended up giving me a verbal warning!

It would be very interesting to know how often law enforcement identifies a car by looking at its front plate. It would seem that the rear plate is far more important, and that the state could could halve it's plate production by abolishing the front plate.

Yes it is the fact that i got two tickets in 20 mns for the same thing that is bothering me..I will pay one and contest the other.

    Carla, the fine is $50,

Also, yesterday on the way home , i had to speed up to 80 mph to pass a slow truck on the left lane and then go back to normal speed, but when i checked my rear mirror , i see a GMC pick up, glued to my bumper. He turns his headlights off, then switch them backk on but this time they are blinking white and blue..I thought..**** ! An unmarked cop. So i start moving to the right shoulder and he is still glued to my bumper..I stop and he just drive off.

Was it some kid having fun ? Or a cop with his own car that just wanted to scare me ?

If you show up in court, you will be bill at LEAST another $75.00 for filing, storage and other misc court costs. Not to mention your time and garage parking fees!

ALSO another FYI found on this site:
    http://theexpiredmeter.com/?p=542

    Tinted Windows
Not only are tinted windows not allowed by Chicago municipal law, but are illegal by Illinois state law as well.

If you are moving to Chicago from out of town, make sure you have no, zero, none, nada tint on your front windshield and front side windows.

If you have tinted windows, spend the $30-$50 to have the tint removed or you’ll get hit with a $25 ticket now, but it jumps to $250 after January 15, 2009.

Got a $50 ticket in the mail last week for not having the front plates on my Z. I went to Arlington Nissan and they drilled holes in the front and put the plate on (after much protest, not wanting to "ruin" my car). I mailed in pictures of the front and back plates on the car and said I was contesting. We will see what happens. For what it's worth the front bracket was $75 and the ticket was only $50.

I've received multiple front plate tickets on my 3-series, and been pulled over for it a couple times, but never received a ticket for it on my Elise, or even been given a ticket for it when pulled over for speeding. Go figure.

Just FYI - as of 01/01/06 ANY type of cover on a license plate is illegal as per the Illinois Motor Vehicle Code - including clear covers. I haven't heard of this being enforced yet, but time will tell.

Another reason to get an antique vehicle license plate, if you are elidgible. The law says

"Historical License Plates, representing the model year, may be displayed on an antique vehicle, provided the owner has valid, current Antique Vehicle Plates. Plates and registration must be kept in the vehicle at all times."

Seems like if you do not even need to display the actual plate, not having one on the front is inconsequential. I have 3 more years to go!

I too once got pulled over on the Ike by a State trooper in my Porsche for no front plate. Personally, I thought it was a much more dangerous operation to pull onto and subsequently off the shoulder of the Ike in a construction zone than any potential benefit a front plate would have. The real joke is that many states do not require front plates. Therefore, if you have no front plate because you have an out of state plate, it's perfectly legal. Evidently, it's only important to identify Illinois vehicles from the front.

HEY EVERYONE, IT'S ALL ABOUT REVENUE; nothing more!

Corruption costs big dollars. Without it, we'd have no politicians running for office in IL.

Ante up and give gladly; where would we be without politicians! :D

Only a few months for me!
however, I just renewed about 3 months ago, so I guess I'll wait till next summer.
thinkin' about changing the plate too.

currently : AMANTE (Italian for mistress)
gonna change to some derivation of "Fuhwahwee", which is what my son used to say every time he saw it... loved that!
