Recently stopped by CHP for speeding. He was nice enough to offer me a fix it ticket or speeding. Of course I chose the fix it ticket. Now the dilemma: He gave me a fix it ticket for no front license plate. Any solutions for mounting a front license without drilling holes in the bumper of a 430. Maybe I should of chose the speeding ticket??

run the plate on your dash board and the cops nor parking ticket officers ever cite for those as far as i know. and with dash board placement, you can take it out easily and stow it if you need to go vanity style. and you don't molest your car.

A plate sitting on your dash isn't in compliance - check the DMV site/motor vehicle code.

If you're stopped by a real CHP/LAPD officer, you will get a ticket.

To the OP: Maybe post in the 360/F430 section - I'm sure others have had this issue.

the codes you cite notwithstanding, if you run a plate on the dash you will more than likely not get cited. take it away and the story changes. i've done this on my street. the day i took it out i got a ticket for no front plate displayed. put it back in, nobody ever touches me.

    but do as you wish.

I finally gave in and had a front plate bracket for the 328 fabricated and installed by the local dealer.

The important point is that the attachment to the car should be stronger than the plate.

That way, the plate makes a handy curb feeler on parking garage ramps; only the plate gets deformed -- before anything pretty gets dinged. ;)

(Okay, technically, I suppose it's mounted lower than code would like, but it's mostly out of the radiator airflow, and this way I get *some* use out of the thing.)

    Laminate before it's too late.

    A bracket is a racket. :D

I have mine held on with a couple of tie wraps- easy to remove for shows etc. Police leave you alone.

It's still illegal. Just zip tie it up there, take a picture, bring the picture into the circuit court. Then it's dropped. Or pay the $77 and get on with life. I've had over 10 of those tickets, 8 have been dropped. Plus if you ever rear end some one with it in your dash...it will fly up and decapitate you!!

A small amount of silicone. Use some double stick mirror tape to hold it in place while the silicone drys. Or... why not drill a couple of small holes? The license plate has to be mounted and if you sell the car the next owner will also likely have to mount plates. Hole spacing is standardized so I don't see it as a big issue. Measure twice, drill once.

Quite frankly I've never understood why some states do not require front plates. Plates are on the car for the purpose of identification. Is it only important to identify a vehicle from one end or when it's travelling only in one direction?? Makes no sense.

Not sure where you're located, but Dave at Premier says he has something to adhere the plate to the bumper for inspection and then he can remove it afterwards without leaving a mark. You might want to call him. Good Luck.

Euro Plates are different sizes than US license plates - a Euro plate could easily be mounted, with no overhang, across my 308 front bumper. A US-spec plate would block my radiator, causing the car to overheat. The REAL reason US states mandate a front plate isn't for ID purposes, its to give the cops' Radar/Laser speed guns a flat reflective surface to aim for and obtain decent speed readings to prosecute/cite you with.....

I'm dealing with a front-plate ticket right now in Texas. I really don't want to block the radiator on my 308, so I've thought about a slim-line Euro plate mounted on my lower Euro valance lip. Some have told me this is not legal, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Question is, where can I order a Euro-style plate with my Texas letter/digits on it?

    Thanks,
    Greg

Just use some double sided 3M tape and attach it. It won't budge to the touch. Then to remove use a hair dryer. Heat the plate first and it'll come off then just heat and peel the rest. Cheapest and easiest solution ;)

This has to be the ULTIMATE license plate system !
(Scroll to the red car in the middle of the screen and watch the front plate.)
