Folks, I was wondering if anyone can confirm the part number of one of the two front luggage compartment inspection covers on a '98 RHD F355 Spider. It's the type which *doesn't* have the integral spring-loaded buttons (it has separate screw down buttons).

I ordered P/N 65407400 from a company in the UK. When it arrived, it came in an official Ferrari wrapper, with the part number I wanted printed on the outside, but the item itself had spring-loaded buttons. Has Ferrari put the wrong item in the box?

Ricambi USA has a picture of it (Item 6, Table 112), but I believe they are nil stock there.

    Thanks,
    Cheers

I've had three 355 (two spiders 96 & 97 and a Berlinetta 97) and never had screw down fitment. They have always been the poppers similar to how the tonneau is fixed. What year is your car?

Ricambi's site has 3 versions of this:

65407400 CONTROL UNIT INSPECTION COMPLETE COVER -Valid from car Ass. Nr. 24724
64896600 CONTROL UNIT INSPECTION COMPLETE COVER -Not for GD -Valid till car Ass. Nr. 24723
62957600 CONTROL UNIT INSPECTION COMPLETE COVER -Valid for GD -Valid till car Ass. Nr. 24723

Find where your car's build number fits in to these 3 options.

I have a US Spec '98 Spider and mine has the screw down type.

Thanks, guys. I also have a '98 Spider (although Euro-spec). My assembly number is 29832. The number I ordered is correct according to the Ricambi site (according to car assembly number and it's description as a screw type). I was questioning whether Ricambi lists the right number for the screw down type, but I also see it has a later part number in the sequence so it's logical that it's the right part.

No one else had this part available, so it looks like I'll have to start looking at the second hand part market.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but these luggage compartment liner pieces (big and small) have been a total drama. The originals were badly cracked/repaired, so I ordered new pieces. The new (original Ferrari) ones I ordered via the UK were poorly made. All had ugly moulding flaws, several had minor cracks, some had larger cracks which had been poorly repaired, one panel was cracked into two pieces with just the fabric holding it together, and another panel was bent so badly to fit in the undersized box it took weeks for it to straighten out enough to be fitted to the car. None of the parts had pre-drilled holes and the flanges on some of the parts weren't really big enough to put screw holes in (The material is so fragile that if you drilled a hole so close to the edge, it would probably just crack). One part even cracked during installation because they were such a poor fit.

When I started making enquiries at various places to see if this was the "norm", Daniel at Ricambi kindly responded and explained why they don't sell these pieces: They are just too fragile (and the size of the boxes and the amount of foam required to properly protect these parts makes postage impractical and postage prices ridiculous).

If anyone's "carpet" pieces are damaged, I really don't recommend buying new ones.

    Cheers

    Spot on Ian....

I bought a new right hand carpet piece which was perfect in that it was not cracked...but...it was too long to fit my car.....i had to send it back....the only way it would fit is if i took a knife to it and reshaped...which i wasn't going to do...250 pounds sterling for that btw!

The front boot carpet fitment on the 348/355 really is shoddy in design and manufacture...i mean they came out of the factory with gaffa tape sealing the carpet to the front of the car...disgraceful really for such an expensive car.

I managed to repair my cracked original carpet panels and by careful reshaping i got the boot looking very sharp...the carpet wears well it's the backing fibre board that's rubbish...i also had the 3 metal fixing bars powder coated.

I bought a fitted black boot floor mat for the 355 from morethanpolish in the UK...that is a nice extra to have.

I think the 360 models onwards are much better in this regard from the factory

At least you wouldn't have had to pay return postage from Australia :) That's the trouble with ordering online, even if the seller offers a refund, you still don't get compensation for the return postage. The seller did over discounts and refunds on the parts, but mentioned reordering of one part would come with double the postage costs of the previously sent item.

Anyway, I did find that the cracked fibre board did seem to respond well to superglue. I even found a product from Loctite called PowerFlex Gel-Control, which is infused with rubber which adds a degree of flex to the bond.

As for locking the various pieces together, instead of screws, after a lot of research, I found some "U" shaped rubber edging (with metal reinforcement inside) with the right width. It made assembly/disassembly a little easier.

    Cheers
