Anyone had a parking camera installed after the fact? Dealer installed or aftermarket?
No, but in case you go aftermarket, I would suggest an install that has a camera looking down, where you can see the bottom of the body on the screen. Then you know where you car ends. In the OEM install, the camera is looking straight forward, so you dont see any body part on the screen and that makes it difficult to eye ball how far you are from the kerb.
I was looking into a 360 camera but nothing worthwhile (or may be I did not look at the right place). There are systems that might work but they need to be plugged to the car’s electrical system, which I do not want to see in my Cali30 (what if something goes wrong…). Why don’t they invent an easy system with tiny cameras around the vehicle that simply connect by bluetooth to your iPad or your iPhone for example??
+1 Plus without the direct blast of various elements, the clear cover will likely stay clear for a lot longer.
Many dashcams do that already. But having to tap through your phone every time you need to park will be a real pain. Nothing wrong with plugging something to the OEM system, as long as it is done correctly.
I also am looking to install a front parking camera on my Lusso. I was hoping I could find a wireless CarPlay adapter that supported a plug in USB camera but no luck yet in finding one. My Lusso has wired CarPlay support. Failing that I figured I could install a USB powered WiFi camera but need to figure out how to run the wire back through the firewall to the USB port in the center console. And I can’t see any easy way to run a wire through so far. Alternatively I could power from a 12V ACC or IGN in the engine bay but can’t find any references as to where I could tap in a fused line and am very reluctant to start pulling 12V lines in there. It shouldn’t be so difficult….
I own an FF and my company specializes in retrofits for Carplay and cameras. If you are located near NYC please let me know I would love to develop a solution we are the only company offering camera and Carplay/Android Auto interface for the California and FF.
I guess someone could make an adapter that sits between the bumper and the camera and tilts it downward. Or maybe repurpose the 812 one.
