Driving into SF on Monday, minding my own business, SFPD, lights, etc. pulls me over. Where's your front plate? No place for it. I'll give you a week to get one on the car. Not going to happen. If you give me a ticket, I'll tape a plate on, get it signed off, removed the plate, then contest the ticket, get you to appear, and the city will lose money was the response. His comment was: we need the front plates for the photo tickets on the red light runners. I promised not to run any more lights, and I didn't get the ticket.

Anyone else talk their way out of a ticket for no plate, or more importantly, anyone with a front plate on their car? The 360s have a place for the plate, but I'll be damned if I'll put one on.

If he see's another yellow 360 driving without a plate, and I get pulled over, I will tell him; I'M ART, YOU ALREADY PULLED ME OVER..

At least I can say that now and it is true :)

Yes, please, more pics - I have a black/tan 430 on the boat. How did you spec the interior? Congratulations!

edit - on topic content: I'll never put one on, either.

Same problem up here in most provinces of Canuck land. In Vancouver, British Columbia, the fine is $80 if you don't have a front plate and they love to dish it out. Don't have a 360 but do have a yellow 98 355 F1 spider that's been dashing around w/o a plate, and was recently pursued (he was several blocks back after doing a U turn), but managed to evade the ticket by darting into a parking garage as he sped by.

Frankly, I get tired of the hassle, and so fabricated my own plate bracket that involves no drill holes. A couple of Porsche buddies who face the same problem saw it and thought it was pretty good.

Step 1: Trimmed the bottom of plate to leave just main numbers visible and situated the trimmed plate in a standard, plastic, black plate housing. It was actually produced by Ferrari of Vancouver and has Ferrari in yellow letters on the top, so it looks good. I just cut and reduced the dimensions of the plastic black plate housing and epoxied the thing onto the plate. It thus becomes a 'solid' unit. Looks like a Euro plate in width. OK, a cop might squiblle I messed with the plate, but at least I'm showing BIG respect for a stupid law.

Step 2: Got 4 "L" shaped brackets (to yield 2 pairs) from a local hardware store that had holes drilled in them near both ends. Put one of the L shaped brackets on top of my lowest front grill piece, the other underneath it, and put a nut and bolt through the innermost holes to force them to clamp down on the grill. Then affixed my plate to the other end of the 'L' -- with the 'L' now facing down.

Step. 3: Painted the brackets black and it looks professional.

For those of you more than curious, I wish I could described the process better, but you get the jist.

A timely topic for me; just purchased an old 550; previous out of state plate was attached w/double-faced tape: verrrry strong too. Took off +/- 4" of paint! Not ready to pull and repaint bumper/spoiler yet, so am going with a color photocopy, heavy clear lamination, sticky tape again......
My excuse if stopped will be "new bracket on order, has to come from Italy, may take 3-6-9 months, who knows, car model is discontinued, FNA doesn't love me, blah, blah......."
Worth a try........? Only cost $7 CA so far........

    Jerry and Will,
Go to Northwest 7-13 post "Marty's black 430" for more pics.
I'm a believer of keeping the cabin specs as simple as possible so ---reg tan seats NO piping or stitching-black dash black stitching carbon fiber trim-electric seats ,leather liner and shelf and ordered black mats with tan prancing horse Outside, yellow calipers and emblem.
Dawn wash followed be zaino polish x 4coats in the past 10 days.It is a ***** to keep pristine (I am anal) but when polished is Gorgeous!!
Really cannot expound on handling since I only have 250mi and keeping it under 5000rpm's for 600mi breakin period.
However it is fast as hell, shifts smoothly (F1)and is comfortable.with great seats and improved ergonomics. Compared to my 575 it feels the 600 lb diff,of course has a stiffer suspension and not the torque of the 12 cyl. It is not a viable comparison since one is a true sports car-theother a great GT cruiser. The stock exhaust is a deep roar-no need for a tubi or straight pipes which I put on the 575.

I'm dreading the day I have to put one on the 575. I've seen 360's with plates, and while not ideal, are not terribly bad looking. At least there is a place where one looks like one should go. On the 575 you have to cover the beautiful chrome plated prancing horse -- no way!! Art I like your comment, I'll remember that one.

In California (and presumably some other states) there are various thematic license plates available in lieu of the standard white one. Perhaps the most beautiful is the "whale tail" (which benefits the Coastal Commission):

If you're stuck putting a front plate on your car, one of these is at least nicer-looking than the ordinary one, and you might help save an otter or two. :)
