I've gotten pulled over before but I think cops just look at it as an excuse to pull me over because I look suspicious or something. I see a bunch of people driving their new Mercedes with that fancy dealership front plate with the chromed out Benz logo and Im sure the cops don't bother with them. So is this law now into effect? Can I drive without a front plate to work today without any worries?
This is still in the early stages. It has a long way to go before it becomes law - if it does. One can hope. John
I know a couple people who have been pulled over in the last couple of years and been issued tickets. One guy got three tickets in a year for it! Unlucky I guess!
I've heard many first hand reports of both warnings and tickets from clients. Most are coming back in asking for us to put their front plate on for them. Hopefully the new law will change that.
I've never had one on any of my cars & my parents cars don't have them either. None of us have had any troubles with the law regarding this matter ** Knocks on wood **
got pulled over in the Pantera once on a back country road and got a warning. Haven't been pulled in the 308. I do keep the plates in the car in case they ask.
I made a wrong turn yesterday in my 330, no front plate, and was facing a Dallas patrol car with two officers in it head-on, cruising through a parking lot at 5 mph. They didn't give me a first look, much less a second. Advice to those folks in Dallas who don't already know this: Stay away from the Park Cities, especially Highland Park, unless everything is up to date, you've got both plates on, and you're conspicuously wearing your seat belt and your passenger is too. They've had a shakedown racket going on over there for many years and will nail you for the slightest infraction.
HB 3540 update: An action has taken place on HB3540 during the past day. Author: Jim Pitts Caption: Relating to certain fiscal matters affecting governmental entities; providing penalties. Status: PC Bill History (ordered by most recent action): H 05-25-05 Senate passage as amended reported Okay - my contacts must be in the wrong eyes this morning!! I'm positive the license plate issue was at one time under Article 9. Article 9 now is entitled "Faith and Community-Based Initiatives to Provide Health and Human Service. Not hardly anything dealing with license plates. Below is what I found in relationship to anything vehicular: ARTICLE 10. TRANSPORTATION FEES AND FISCAL MATTERS SECTION 10.01. Subchapter A, Chapter 222, Transportation Code, is amended by adding Section 222.0021 to read as follows: Sec. 222.0021. TRANSFERS TO GENERAL REVENUE FUND. Each month, out of money in the state highway fund that is not dedicated by the Texas Constitution, the comptroller shall transfer the amount of $5,666,667 from the state highway fund to the general revenue fund. SECTION 10.02. Section 502.161(a), Transportation Code, is amended to read as follows: (a) The fee for a registration year for registration of a passenger car, a municipal bus, or a private bus that weighs 6,000 pounds or less is: (1) $42.20 [$40.50] for a vehicle the model year of which is more than six years before the year in which the registration year begins; or (2) [$50.50 for a vehicle the model year of which is more than three years but is six years or less before the year in which the registration year begins; or [(3)] $58.50 for a vehicle the model year of which is six [three] years or less before the year in which the registration (when I copied/pasted - it lost the strike-throughs) - the amount in (1) becomes 40.50; (2) is replaced by #3 and (3) is gone) What is interesting is that in section (a) specified are a passenger car, municipal bus or private bus - wonder what happened to our pick-up trucks and especially those of us with farm tags??? These folks appear to be just as looney as the F1 circus ringmasters! Carol
I'm still confused. So does this mean that if your car is currently registered with two plates you have to continue using them? Or does it mean it is now legal for any car to have just a rear plate? Or is it altogether still illegal to run no front plate?
I believe that it means nothing at this point as it's only passed the senate as ammended. Status quo. Carol
Got curious again to be sure what I read this am on the bill alert email was actually what I was looking at. Unless it's hidden somewhere in invisible type, somewhere along the line Article 9 - Reduction in Nomber of License Plates was struck and a renumbering took place with Article 9 now stating "Faith and Community Based Initatives To Provide Health and Human Services". Anyone know any different? Carol
