Front spindle color: natural (cast) or painted?

Hello All,

I'm restoring the front suspension on my 308 QV, and it's not clear to me if the front spindles were originally painted. Are these meant to be painted black, or are they natural color?

Well, it was hella dirty. Though, of course, that's not a helpful reply. I've stripped mine at this point, but going off of memory, it was satin or semi-gloss. Not gloss.

Edit: Not sure if this is helpful to you, but in my 328 restoration, my current plan is to use VHT engine block paint (black) because I am treating that part as a high-temp application. As a result, whatever the paint used to be, I'm assuming I'll end up with gloss black.

 

'85 QV, all original. Black. I wouldn't call it flat, but not semigloss either. Looks like about the same as the black on the frame in the engine compartment.
