This option is now available for the 458 Italia:

"Front suspension lift (Modis code ELEV)
A front suspension lift system may be ordered as an option. The system raises the front suspension by up to 40 mm to allow the vehicle to clear speed bumps and ramps. When ordered with this option, the vehicle also must be equipped with adaptive headlights with an additional vertical beam adjustment function."

    2 questions:
    - why the option AFS1 (AFS Frontlight system) is necessary? I don't understand the point.
    - what is the "additional vertical beam adjustment function"? Is it for the car or for the lights?

I believe that the point of it is to keep the beams from the headlights at an angle at which they will not blind other drivers when the car has the lift activated. Without it, when the car is raised, the beams will be right in other peoples eyes. BMWs with Xenon lights have had this feature for a while.

I think most cars with Xenon have this, its like an auto leveler that you described very well.

How fast does the system activate? Suppose you forget to turn it on and you see a speed bump ahead. Will you have enough time to hit the switch and activate?

The Porsche version takes about 15 seconds, I assume the F458 will be similar.

I would assume this would have a lift system similar system to the Murcielago, where it drops back down automatically once the car reaches 35 mph. But then again if it did there would be no reason to have the auto leveling.

Never timed it but the Murciélago system seems to take even longer. Long enough for you to wonder if you actually hit the button right.

I heard yesterday there is a problem with the ELEV option and it's delaying production.

Thanks ISUK. Have specified ELEV for the rigours of the American West. Have a delivery date early July on order sheet. Nobody here in Florida knows of that specific delay but my order is still not starred for production. What to do? Off to Barcelona today.
Any F Chatters at the Ferrari Formula 1 Club Spanish GP next week ?
    See you there !

You are correct. It appears that cars that opted for this will be delayed.

My Daler also informed me about the delay but they don't know when the car is going to be delivered ... My 458 supposed to be at the end of May and now? I heard also that there will be new options for 458 right now. Do you know anything about this?

For those of us with orders a fair way out, it's nice to know that the early guys on the list will miss out on something! :p

do you guys know if ELEV has been postponed for all orders worldwide, or if it is US specific (e.g., certification issue)? Reason why I am asking is that my Swiss dealer doesn't know anything about a potential delay, and my car with ELEV is supposed to be delivered in June.

Swiss dealer sent an email to the factory and answer was that my car is already in production and on time for delivery in June. No mention of ELEV option, so shouldn't be a problem...
    let's see...

sure, will post on the forum if I know more. Maybe it is linked to a problem of local certification in EU and Asia?
Or the guy in the factory didn't know what he was talking about and they will call me in 3 weeks to announce 3 months of delay... :-(
