Has anyone got a "rule of thumb" set up for the front wheel bearing play? I've just driven 1000K across Spain and am suspicious they have too much play in them. I know NOT to over tighten them, but I can feel movement on both front wheels when pushing them. I've got 1000K return trip next week so don't want to damage anything!.

    Thanks.

Unless you can get a dial indicator, and do 3-4 thou play, just tighten the castellated nut
    an 1/8 + of a turn.
This, is strictly hit and miss, as not the proper way of adjusting, but in an emergency....

    Thanks Alberto,

do you think I should still feel some play in the wheels when tightened or should they feel snug?

Patrick, freewheeling but without side to side movement, if with the tire on. If you are really concerned and doing the adjustment yourself, it possibly could be better if you stopped by any small mechanical shop. They will know what to do as long as you do not lose sight of the car...

Inpect outer bearing race as they are known to gaul and pit. Inner race requires removal of grease seal and new seal installed. No play must be felt
