I am in the process of rebuilding the front suspension and steering on my 308. I noticed the front outer wheel bearing race has vertical grooves in it. They appear to be precisely regular and can be felt with one's finger, so it is not just a marking. What would cause this? I notice the race is and SKF Italy part and the wheel beariing is a Timken USA part. Evidently the bearing was replaced at one point but not the race. Should I replace the set? See the attached photo's. The other side looks fine and are both Italian parts.

Bearings should always be replaced as a set.

They're cheap. Buy a whole set.

Thanks for the informative links and suggestions. You guys are right. They are cheap enough just to replace the entire set. I may as well do both sides.
