For the past few days my car has been acting sick. Everytime I start it it sounds fine, but when I come to a red light or stop sign it stalls, the rms are fine at idle 1000, but drop at stopping and stalls. Then it starts to make a fluttering sound, but no cels or sdl. It sounds like a hole in my exhaust but everything looks ok. It revs up really rough like a hole in the exhaust and very rattly sounding. I disconected the battery for 10 min and started it back up and same thing. I cleaned the conections on MAF. It goes in tomorrow for the 30K service, is there anything I should look for or have my mechanic look for, this is driving me nuts. I have a 1991 with BMC filters, hyper flow cats and a xost level 2 exhaust. Thanks.

#1 Do the CEL and SDL at least illuminate when the key is on the accessory position? Let's make sure the bulbs are there, first.

#2 cleaning MAF's can be very problematic unless you use proper cleaner and absolutely don't touch anything. They're pretty delicate.

#3 When you're driving the car, does it still have full power, or does it feel like only 1/2 the power is there?

Stalling when you come to a complete stop, but having good idle RPMs and otherwise running fine, is typically due to idle air bypass passages needing cleaning or idle air bypass screws needing opening a bit.

Stalling when you come to a stop but rough running engine at othertimes might be a clogged cat or air intake, among other things.

All cel and sdl come on fine at start up. It just started doing this, but a month ago my drivers side cat was glowing red hot and I was told by another F chatter that his 348 did the same thing and it turned out to be a bad coil pack not firing one of the cylinders. I am just worried that I will not be able to get my baby to the mechanic about a 20 minute drive.

Even if you have a clogged cat making your car stall at idle and rev rough, you still need to know what caused it to fail in the first place. Hyperflow cats don't just go bad.

Fitting a new cat without fixing the core problem would just see a repeat.

Turned out to be the ignition pack or spark plug coils
