Here is your chance to own the "right" 928 GTS. 1994 and 1995 were the last years of the 928 and this car has definitely been pampered throughout it's life.

Will agree - very nice car, I want to get back into another 928 some day, but I could never tolerate a slushbox...

In one way that slushbox is better than the 5 speed- the rear end ratio is 2.54 in the a/t and 2.73 in the 5 speed. The 5 speeds from '89 to '95 turn a lot of rpm's at highway speeds. 3200 at 80 mph, where the a/t would be less, just under 3000. The GTS 5 speed feels like you need a 6th gear on the highway.
5 speeds before '89 ('83-'88) had a 2.20 that gave you 2400 rpm at 80 mph. More relaxed at speed.

p.s. you would have to drive it on some hilly, twisty roads before you say "no way" to the automatic. It's not bad, and it is in the right gear all the time. It would be a little better if it was a 5 speed a/t, not 4...

Does the phone come with the car? I'm not interested if the phone is excluded. :D

Well, I live in the friggin' mountains of North Carolina, so I'd say I have plenty of hilly, twisty roads :)
Since I don't often see over 75 mph, the final drive doesn't much matter to me.

Lovely car though - my first 928 was an '87 S4 in guards red with tan & black interior that had been retrofitted with a GTS tail cap.

Great car! Auto's in 928's are not bad but it sure would be nice if they were Tip trans so you could choose your gear more easily.

I have 7 928's right now and 2 GTS's and I LOVE THEM ALL! This is a very nice car at a more than reasonable price! Good buy all the way around!

I have owned four 928's including a 95 GTS 5 speed up to four years ago, and there is no way my car was turning even close to 3krpm at 80mph. Maybe the US cars are differentlt geared to the Euro cars, but this figure you quote seems way too high??

No, 3200 rpm is right for 80 mph. Could your trans or pinion gear have been changed before you got the car? The gearing was the same for US and euro GTS cars. If I were to own a GTS 5 speed I would try to swap for the 2.20 box myself, just my preference.

yea, 3200 at 80 is a bit high. Probably a speedo issue that is not right or a tire size issue throwing things off or something. If that was correct the car would never hit 160 before red line and a GTS is probably a 175mph car regardless of transmission. Heck the S4's are good for 171 if you pull the mirrors and wiper blades. 2200 at 65 is what I see (roughly) on all my 928's (except the 3 spd cars)...actually now that I think about it the 3 spd cars are right in there too...

Oh, in case I have not mentioned it in this thread I currently have 7 928's from '80 Euro S (built to GT specs for PCA club racing) '81, '82, '84 S, '88 S4, '92 Euro GTS, '94 GTS and have been in to them for more than 13 years now... So I do have a little experience with these cars! :)

James; I was talking about 5 speeds, the a/t is 2.54 and certainly has lower rpm in top gear than the 5 speed with 2.73 in 5th. That was my point that in that way the a/t is better for highway cruising than the 5 speed. This is my opinion, and for use as a normal (sport) street car like most of us drive. The track (as you know) is different for sure. :)

I was under the impression that the OVERALL gearing was nearly identical... 3200 at 80mph is probably pretty close... 20mph per 1000 rpm would still put you a little low for the top speed of 171+ listed in the Tech spec manual though. Should be almost 30mph per 1000 rpm. Ispeed you are correct rear end ratio is the only difference between 5sp and auto GTS's, the top gear in each (5th and 4th respectively) are direct drives of 1.000. So, the manual will turn a slightly higher rpm at equal speeds but I don't think it would be a huge difference...again 80 mph at more like 2900 seems about right to me, but again I am used to the auto trans cars.

FastViper any more than 7 would just be TO MUCH don't you think?! LOL! I tell you what, if I had room, money and time to spend with them I'd have one from each model year!
