I have no association with this car, but I came across it today and figured I may as well post in case someone has interest. There is a red/black 308GTSi for sale at the Corvette Collection in Plainfield. Looks like its in pretty good shape. Odo is at ~38k, priced at 36.9k (which seems a little high). If this was someones on here or if you're getting it please let us know!

Yeah, I saw that car awhile back too. No, If it is in good condition, with paperwork, and has been serviced. IMO, that price seems pretty good, to start out with, anyway. Certainly plenty of room for bartering, though....:)

I bought one car from the Corvette Collection many years ago. It was a 1975 Corvette Convertible. Really nice car, but did need some cosmetics in the Interior. My plan was to restore it and paint it like a 1978 Pace Car, (The Black over Silver) with the corresponding front and rear spoilers. Wheels. Silver Leather interior. Etc...(They never made a Convertible Corvette in 1978. Let alone a Pace Car version. Last ones were '75 until '86) So, it would be unusually cool, I thought, anyway....)

But, they are pretty high priced over there. In fact, all of these Corvette places around here are. D&M Corvette in Downers Grove. I wonder if they ever sell any cars at all! And, they just opened up a "Corvette Mike" dealer in Burr Ridge by IL.83 and I-55. (Original is in SoCal.) I haven't had a chance to stop by there yet. But, will assume that they are overpriced there, too. I just don't get it with these Corvette guys....There were Tons and Tons of these cars made. Yet, these guys all think that they are going to retire with the proceeds of selling theirs. LOL!

There is a place in Ohio called "Pro Team". Now, those guys need to install some vents and windows in their shop....they have suffered severe Brain Damage from the exhaust fumes! You should see the prices that they ask for their cars! It's truly a wonder that they ever sell any....:)

Here are the ones that I owned.....:)

    Not shown in order. But in order that I bought them... #1 was a Red/Tan '75 Coupe.Built 350 4speed. 4:11 rear end. Side Pipes. #2 was a Red/Tan '85 Coupe. Auto. Engine redone by D&M Corvette. #3 was the Blue/Black '75 Convt. #4 was the White/Blue '75 Coupe. #5 was the Blue/Tan '95 Coupe. #6 was the Black/Burgundy '81 coupe. With 383 stroker. 2400 Stall. 4:88 Rear end. 550HP!. #7 was a Red/Red '91 coupe with redone motor. Fun cars, for sure!!!!....:)

Beautiful cars Frank! Thanks for showing. Did you go from Vette to Ferrari or was there a car in between?

With that mileage and that car, it shouldn't sell for more than $25k. Maybe 26 or 27K at MOST.

Well, I was "weaned" on Muscle Cars when I was a teenager. '66 Pontiac GTO was my very first car. '72 'Cuda, '67 Chevelle, '65 Impala, '70 Camaro, '74 Roadrunner, '68 Sport Fury. (And a few more)

Then got into Corvettes when I was 25. And had all of the ones that are shown.

I had one Porsche, It was a 944. I've always really like them. And I came across a very nice all Black one, so I bought it. It was not "fast" by all means....but, I'd call it "peppy". ( I have seen a couple of them with built 350 Chevy engines in them. Now THAT would be great car, IMO. Looks, Power, Handling all in one sweet little package!...:) ) Mine had a 5 speed and handling absolutely fantastic! And, it was actually one of the roomiest sportscars that I've ever stuck my 6'2" frame into. The seat can go very far back. I loved that little car, and would really like to get another one someday. Or maybe a 928. I liked the front engined Porsches. But was never a fan of the other models, regardless of what their performance was. Just me, I guess...

Then, I almost bought a Ferrari a few times. But, it just wasn't meant to be at the time I guess....bad cars, etc...and, I suppose that it was lucky that I didn't, as, I went through a very messy...very expensive divorce, and would have lost it for sure. (I did end up losing 2 of the 3 Corvettes, though, because of that....:( ) But, after that was all done, I got the Ferrari that I've owned now for almost 5 1/2 years.....:)

Here are a few pix of that little 1986 944

    Hmmm, V8 944???

    Kinda like this below Frank?

Just a little toy of mine that I put together. 5.7 liter all aluminum LS1 (only 80 pounds more weight than the 2.5 liter four cylinder that came out of it). Ummm, its a real pleasure (read: hand-full) to drive: Sweet little package.

Absolutely....if it is in generally crappy, "used" 20 year old plus car condition.

But.... If it is a really Nice, really Clean, properly stored, well kept, well Maintained -with Service Records, Car. IMO, and from what I see in the Ads on Ferrari Buy, Hemmings Motor News, DuPont Registry, and all of their Adverisers, ETC.....That asking price would not be out of line.

There is a Big difference between a "Nice 308" and one that isn't. Call any Authorized Ferrari Dealer. Tell them that you are looking for a "Nice 308" And see what they say. First, they'll tell you that they are very hard to find. Second, they'll tell you that if they do find one for you, it will be pricey. Go ahead, try it.

But, since I have not seen this particular car in person....just the Print Ads, I couldn't tell you if it was a "Nice 308" or not. But, I have been to Corvette Collection many times. And they do mostly have really clean cars of all kinds there.

OH YEAH!!!!! Now THATS what I"M Talking about! Perfect!

Yes, I've always thought that was plenty of room in front to fit an engine like that.

I bet that little thing is scary fast! But handles great! Ever take it to the Race Track? Oval, Road or Drag?....:) That little car could probably do very well on any circuit!

What did you do about the torque tube/transaxle set up? Although, thats similar to what they've been using on the recent Corvettes, right? What kind of tranny do you use now?

You bet, it fit's rather well.

Oh yes, this is my primary track car. It has done it all. 1/4 mile, road course (it is set up as a NASA unlimited road racer). The chassis balance is 51/49. The HP is 400 without the supercharger, 550 with (6 psi boost). It is also quite a good street car, but the suspension is pretty serious for that.

I use an adapter plate to get the torque tube to mate up to the GM bellhousing. Then I sell of the naturally aspirated transaxle & upgrade to a 944 turbo transmission. I put in a Quaife torque biasing dif, a factory trans cooler, and go with a real nice strong set of bolt-on aftermarket axles. The top speed is limited to 170 with the 944 turbo 5th gear ratio, so I pirate the N/A 5th gear cluster from the stock transaxle and move the top speed up to 200 at 6700 RPM (no kidding!). It is all very much the same set-up as the stock 944 or the current Corvette.

When it gets traction it is just plain undefeated. Glad you like it.

Its actually my 8 year old Son's car (he & Franky hung out at Starved Rock - recall?). He lets me drive it on weekends ;)

WOW! That is awesome! I think I'd definitely like to do something like that someday. I really like the 944. The body style. The interior. The Handling. The fit. And, as you mentioned, the 51/49 weight ratio. Cool! VERY Cool!

Oh yeah, I remember your son. My boy always asks me if he's going to be at a Ferrari event when we go. But, I told him that you guys live pretty far away, but that I'm sure that we'll get together again sometime soon.

LOL! Yes, thats what I say about my 308, too. That it is "His car, and that he's just letting me drive it until he turns 18"....:) PROVIDED!....That he stays being a good boy, and doesn't give me too much grief when he's a teenager.....;)

We try to get to EVERY Chicago event, but it just cant work out sometimes. We wanted to see you guys last event at Starved Rock, but we had 50 MPH winds that day, so I pulled the plug on going... Sorry. But, we will be at another soon.

Hey, check this video of the 944LS1 launching. Its a super quick vid that my Son actually took. It will give you an idea of how fast that V8 can rev.
