I'm looking for a good FTP site so that I can host pictures / videos. What are some of the good companies out there? I have never done this before. Thanks

I just registered and tried to upload a video and nothing happened. It looked like it finished uploading but the screen didn't update. And then when I clicked on the update button...nothing new. There were no new videos on the list. :(

I have the same question as Jerry. Any sites that you guys would recommend for basic FTP hosting. I don't need any large gig servers since I'd like to only post some pictures. Yahoo / GeoCities has an option where you can create an ad-free web site at geocities.com/your-name. You can share photos, post a resume, or update friends about your life. It includes FTP, remote-loading, 25MB disk space and supports 5GB bandwidth!

They charge $4.95 / month for this service. 25MB is about right. Anything else we should be thinking about?

    Many thanks.

ghost - that's quite a rip off. looks to me like you want a site created to host videos/pictures, etc. I'd suggest for less than that cost, and much more space/bandwidth, go over to www.go-dedicated.com - sign up and get a domainname, and the hosting power for it all and that will run you just under 50 a year for everything.

otherwise, you are looking at www.gofastvideo.com or some other free image hosting companies which do not offer direct links and not much space, or at least ones that are without ads.

my5minutes.com allows each video to be up to 1,000,000kb and theres no advertising. But to download the videos in order to watch them you have to have a bit torrent thing which you can download off the site. It kicks ass.

Randy, many thanks for the info. I don't need a larger server for uploading. I just need something simple to upload a few (literally 20 - 30) pics. The reality is tha I buy and sell a lot via the net, and so like to post pics for potential buyers to click through when I post via CraigsList, etc.

    No need for video.

Additionally, like most of us, I dislike free sites that throw a lot of pop-ups when you're there, so I'd be happy paying a nominal amount to avoid that.

I'll check www.go-dedicated.com. Took a peek at it, and looks interesting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my5minutes.com seems to be a perfect site for video sharing. From the site:

    --
My5minutes.com, an online community that allows people to upload and download videos for free, has announced its official launch. My5minutes.com, unlike any other website on the Internet, allows users to share, watch, and rate videos entirely free.

My5minutes.com completed beta testing last month and launched its website in the beginning of March 2004. In just a week since its official launch, my5minutes.com boasts over 1,000 users and has had an average new user growth rate of over 25% per day. The video sharing website, allows members to share, watch, and rate videos online at no cost. My5minutes.com eliminates the need to pay for videos to be 'hosted' on web servers and enables the sharing of videos that are too large to email.

On my5minutes.com, users can upload and download videos of all genres including: automotive, commercials, humorous, independent films, movie trailers, sports, weddings, and many more. Members of my5minutes.com are not limited to five minute long videos. Every user gets a free account, including 5 gigabytes of storage, allowing them to upload numerous videos of differing lengths and genres. A thumbnail is automatically created for each video uploaded onto my5minutes.com, which gives users a glimpse at the content of each video. My5minutes.com is also equipped with a search feature, which allows users to search for particular videos based upon keywords that may have been used to describe the video when it was uploaded. Once a user uploads a video onto my5minutes.com or finds a video they want to share with a friend, the user can email a link to where the video can be downloaded, eliminating the hassles of emailing large files.

In order to download and watch videos on my5minutes.com, users need to have a BitTorrent (a distributed file sharing protocol) client installed on their computer. My5minutes.com recommends a BitTorrent client, which does not include any type of spygear, available for download on its website.

Great resource for those seeking a server for videos, but don't think it's right for me given that I just want a place for pictures. Checking www.go-dedicated.com right now.

I set this up to see if the PhotoPost software was any good. Thought it might be a good way to integrate pics with F-Chat. It's not as friendly as vBulletin, but it gets the job done.

Lemme know if I can change the system in any way to make it better. I'm not as smart as Rob (or nearly as responsive) but, hey -- I try. :)

Plus, it's free until I get poor. :)

If you want a dedicated host, I recommend PAIR. http://www.pair.com These guys are super responsive, patient, knowledgable and friendly which, in my opinion, is more important than cheap.

web hosting why not try www.asmallorange.com ? under services you might want to check out the "tiny" which offers 75MB space and 3GB bandwidth for $30 there are a lot of hosting companies out there real cheap but i dont know about reliability. I forgot for this one you also need a domain name to make life easier.
