I have never been a proponent of fuel additives until recently. My 360 had developed a slightly rough idle and CEL occasionally appeared indicating various misfire issues. I searched on this forum and one post recommended Chevron techtron fuel additive. Well $10 was worth a try. After a few miles CEL returned and I erased the code. After a few hundred miles the idle has improved and the CEL has remained off. I was still skeptical until I watched this video yesterday on PCA e-Brake news May 14 / YouTube. "The good, bad and ugly of fuel and oil additives". This video confirmed my belief of NO OIL ADDITIVES but changed my opinion on fuel additives.

Keith- Likely a professional cleaning of your injectors would improve things further. Techron is a good band-aid, but cannot cure all the injector problems.

Top tier fuel and regular use are the best things you can do for injectors.

Absolutely ! Issues first occurred after I parked the car for four months to perform a major service myself. Belts, oil and filter, replaced all fluids and brake pads. I'm slow but very thorough. I usually drive it weekly if only 20 miles. Approximately 11,000 miles in 7 years of my ownership.

I run Redline injector cleaner every oil change on all my vehicles. Have not ever had an injector issue in any of them. Always run good fuel and I like the redline product. At this point injector cleaning might be appropriate but try a few more bottles, give it an Italian tune up and see where it goes..., Cheers

I greatly appreciate all the comments and recommendations but my intent was to recommend that every car owner watch the video " The good, bad and ugly of fuel and oil additives" on You Tube. This video offers facts about additives that are very important to know. I read several posts about additives that some owners are pouring into their Ferrari that made me cringe.

Or some flat 6 Porsches there is a cylinder scoring issue . Mine may be susceptible so I researched additives .
    I’m now running liquimoly 3721 ceratec .
    IMO can’t hurt .

I think you may benefit from the video. The presenter is a PCA member and the presentation was to a PCA group so Porsches and liquid moly are addressed. I also have a Porsche 911.

Some additives are usefull, others are meant to make you feel better. This being said:

    1) premium gazolines do contain additive. A few low cost brands do also give them, whereas some high end brand may not always have additives (Exxon express in France was cuting corners!).

    2) In Europe, we now have super clean gazolinse that hardly leave any deposit: a bit of white deposit due to ethanol, but I have not seen any goey mess for ages. Even gasoil seems much more purified now. (I have not been in North America for a couple of decades, so your mileage may vary). So the most appropriate carb/injector cleaner now is to use the car...

    3) Automatic transmission can benefit from additives.

    4) I like Petronas FVI: when my son's hatchback is burning hot and the oil gets too thin, a dab of this "Ferrari Viscosity Improver" allows to finish the day. Not neccessary in our cars that do have a huge amount of oil.

    4) "cleaners", are usually an expensive repackaging of kerozene, wd40, paint thinner and a few other easy to source petroleum based products commonly sold at any Local Depot... I use such cleaners in my lawn mower after winter storage.

I pretty much only use Chevron 91 octane here due to its additive. About the only other thing I use on cars when I don't know the history of the motor and/or it's a poorly maintained vehicle / engine is a can of Berryman B12 fuel injector cleaner in a full tank of gas. I've seen that do wonders.

Sometimes maybe a little ZDDP in oil if it's a flat tappet camshaft, but some modern oils don't require much of that (while some do).

Otherwise, usually all that additive stuff does more harm than good.

He doesn’t address Berrymans B12 unless I missed it .
I’ve had very good results with it too .

Another concern is carbon build up on the back of intake valves on DI engines .
I think it’s Sea Foam intake cleaner used accordingly that cleans some of it off .
Sea Foam in the crankcase is obviously a no no .
My concern is that on my turbo Alfa for example the deposits removed by the procedure will wear the turbo .
The newer Alfas combine DI and port injection .

I've always had great luck with Berryman B12 spray or the fuel injector cleaner. Here in CA we get a watered down version of the carb cleaner, but if you put the fuel injector cleaner into a spray bottle that's what most of the rest of the world (e.g. Texas, etc.) gets on the shelves.

Not a fan of Sea Foam myself, but a lot of people seem to like it.

Also not a fan of DI motors.. I prefer good ol' fashion port fuel injection. If it works for an LS1 or a Toyota motor, that's good enough for me. Life is too short to have to blast your @#%^ intakes valves with walnuts.

Well you are correct. The fuel additive improved the idle and prolonged the time between CEL warnings but I was not satisfied. I sent my injectors to Injector RX in Houston, Tx. I received the report of their condition before and after their service. Number 7 cylinder was causing the "misfire #7" on the OBD 2. Number 7 injector failed their test miserably and all others injectors were marginal to ok. They are all now testing at 100%. They should have been shipped back this morning but Hurricane Beryl has delayed that. When I install them I'll report on "after service".

Keith- Good luck and here is hoping she runs well. I had to do the same thing to mine and three of them were dripping when shut off.

The 599 Manual calls for an oil additive to keep the valves quiet... when the car gets really warm you will hear the tappets clicking alot... it seems alarming, but Ferrari says its normal, that is what the additive is for.... it works a bit ok.

Injectors installed and seems to run better. Smooth at idle (for a flat plane crank V8 ). I have also started using 93 octane non ethanol fuel and continue to add Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. I highly recommend InjectorRX in Houston. $22 per injector plus shipping both ways. Easy to remove injectors compared to most cars.
