I got 8 miles per US gallon on my last tank (323km on 25 gallons). There was some highway, some town driving. There is not a hole in the tank, before anyone asks!

How bad are your cars on juice?

I have not tested city driven, but in my 400I I got 11 MPG over 80 MPH under 100 ( some spike's higher) and I have gotten just under 14 MPG if I can keep it below 80MPH.

I am curious what the carbed cars get becouse I really like the sound and power of the carbed engine over the CIS engine (although I really like the seamless refined power of the CIS) but did worried about fuel consumption and some other things.

    Hey Aidan,
On Ferrari Club of America's technical forum, someone mentioned that in the 400i instructions (whatever that meant) fuel consumption was listed @ 12/14 miles per imp. gal., or about 10/12 per US gal.. Are you lighting up the tires, maybe running a little rich (pull a plug on ea. bank), if a little rich---Dave has mentioned to lean out the mixture (counterclockwise) w/ 3mm T-handle hex wrench (a gas sniffer up the tailpipe wouldn't be a bad idea either to bring CO levels w/in range) on the fuel distributors.

I used to get between 10 and 11 with her Aidan.
Did Bill make some adjustments? Or are you over-enjoying the sound from the new exhaust?

My '77 carburettor manual gets 11 mpg (Imp) on standard, mixed fast (80 mph) & town, driving - less, into single figures, if I step on the loud pedal too much.

    Keeping the Faith,

    Ray.

Bill did a lot of work optimizing the fuel injection as part of the major.

I haven't been driving too wildly - my 3-year-old loves me to give it some welly, though. I've been keeping it in second gear quite a bit when pottering around, though.

Still, it is quite shocking. A while back, I did some carbon offsetting (through Native Energy) to lessen the guilt factor when driving it.

Aidan, I do the exact same thing to keep the revs up vs. grandma-ing it around, and this is why your mileage is down a little. I also notice h2o can run a little high during this time as not enough air passing thru the rad, but once up to speed, temps @ 12 o'clock. Ferraris are designed to run flat out 24/7.

Car & Driver road tested a 400i in their December 1982 issue. This was a privately imported example, converted by Amerispec, with a 5-speed. In their test results chart, they list "Fuel Economy, EPA city driving", as 8 MPG.

I've been getting 12 to 14 mpg. I did a good check of the odometer and these need to be corrected only about 3% down. I have only done one trip since getting the timing and CO adjustments corrected and I got about 14 on that trip.

I need to drive it harder!

What would be interesting would be to get on a chassis dyno with a wide band O2 sensor and really tune timing and fuel. Plan to do this on my carbed car when I get the motor back in. Overly Rich makes rings/cylinder walls last not so long. Then check the mileage. Don't get me wrong not to tune it lathargic but maybe low 14 to mid 13:1 (air fuel ratio). Has anyone on this board done this?

Set mine up using the sniffer at a local garage. 1.75% CO on both sides. The factory setting is between 1 and 2%.
Runs like a scalded dog when I lean on my right foot.
