Does anyone know of a place that sells this item? I want it to test the FDs on my TR. I need something that will test 6 cylinders at once. It seems that, working on the FDs, is a total "guess" job.........something that is not practical, given my analytical approach to solving problems.

Otherwise, I will have to design and build one myself!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks,

Bosch does (or did) sell a tester #KDJE 7451 for testing fuel distributors. It will test 4-6-8 cyl distributors. I would check with a Bosch jobber to see if they are still available.

    henryk,

This is the tester that you are talking about, they use to be available in the UK, but I think the that they are now discontinued.

It's a piece of "kit" that didn't get used much - In my 32 years with Ferrari I probably have only used our tester a dozen or so times.

If you can't source one in the US, I could have a search around Europe for you.

    henryk,

A bit more information, the tester is still available from Germany, the model number has changed to KDJEP 2000 / Bosch part number is 0986 615 200.

Bad news is that the last UK price was £1241, that's about $2215.

At those prices it might be worth trying to find a second hand one

I picked one up at a shop auction 20 years ago. Some time back I built a jig for testing all the Ferrari FD's on the bench. Actually I use it quite often and did a couple of dist. rebuilds for FNA awhile back when there were none to be had on the market, and the then available rebuilt units were terrible. Shocking had poorly they are set up right from the factory when new! The TR's really wake up when the dist's are set properly!

    Malcom,

That is the unit in question. But, are these any good??????????

I am really surprised that these units where used so sparingly. It seems that this would be the ONLY way to accurately test the fuel output to all injectors, at the same time........the best test, I can think of, to see if the FD is working properly.

The unit is very good. They are not used very often because as Dave points out it is usefull for "Fine Tuning" but other than that the fuel distributors are very reliable. As with most mechanical FI systems, once things are set properly they pretty much stay that way. In fact except for fuel pumps CIS systems are pretty bullet proof. The only real problem with mech inj in general is it doesn't have the sophistication to make good power over a wide variety of conditions and then there is the emission aspect as well.

    henryk,

Might be worth you speaking direct with bosch in the US

    This might help .... http://www.boschusa.com/

Also, there may be a Bosch agent in the US who has one of the original testers that is still sitting on his shelf and would "do a deal" just to sell it.

The price I quoted was the price (Bosch / Germany) would sell to Bosch UK.

    Good Luck.
