I replaced my fuel filter this weekend and the copper gasket on the top of the filter is leaking minutely. I do not want to overtorque it to stop the leak , and I know how a fuel leak in this area can be a big problem. I have looked at the local auto parts stores for a replacement but all I see are larger gaskets for brake calipers. Help !!! Where can I get this gasket. Anyone else had this problem and what was the solution. Thanks.

Easiest solution is to anneal it. The copper gets hard from multiple tightenings. Heat it with a propane torch for a minute or two and let it air cool. That will soften it so it will seal properly.

If you heat it with a torch for two minutes you're likely to have a bloby bit of copper on the floor. I hang mine on a wire and heat it witht the torch until they just start to glow red and then I stop. Let them air cool. I did this with all of the CIS copper washers (probably 24?) and not a one of them leaks. I did have to replace one of them because it got a bit hot and deformed. Ask the counter guy at a real auto parts store (not Kragen/Schucks/Autozone/etc.) and they probably have them behind the counter for 50 cents each.
