Does anyone know where the fuel filter is located on a 2006 Subaru Outback 2.5i, or if it even has one? Oddly, in the Preventative Maintenance Schedule they don't even list it as an item that needs replacing, and on-line parts suppliers don't seem to list one as being available. Anyone know, or know where I can find an on-line diagram of the fuel system? TIA.

i wish i saw this before i did my oil change today and had my car on a lift. ill do some research and get back to you. i have a legacy gt, it should be roughly the same. But unless you have like mad high miles, its some something i would worry about.

Thanks for the information and recommendations John. I was guessing that it was in the tank since it didn't appear as an item in the Service Manual Maintenance Schedule, and it obviously isn't in the engine compartment. I wasn't going to futz with it, but, when I asked my local Subaru dealer what items they did for a 30K mile service, they included changing the fuel filter (but maybe they weren't being so year/model specific -- although I was very specific in my inquiry). Have to give Subaru some bad marks for listing too many things just "I" (like ATF and diff oil) in the Service Manual Maintenance Schedule that do have to be replaced ("R") occasionally, and leaving some things out completely (like power steering fluid).

most companies dont do power steering fluid changes or brake fluid changes. they are usually extras. but the 30k is prolly along the lines, of oil, tranny, diff, coolant flushes/changes. rotate tires, clean and adjust brakes. And your prolly paying the money for the labor time to do so.
