Hey all I just changed my fuel filter and wondering how long do you have to turn the engine over before it fires. One problem is my fuel pump does not run until i hit the key. This is normal for a 99 with an immobilizer. At that point I can not hear the pump. It does not seem to stay running when i let the key go.
Ok thought i would update Checked the fuel at the divider block and no fuel yet. I think i Did something wrong when I rebuilt the fuel pump. I will check the fuse in morning
That is too long. Something is wrong. Remove the panel under the fuel tank, apply 12 volt directly to the fuel pump. see if you hear the pump run. If yes, check fuel pressure at the far end of the fuel filter. Did you install the filter in the right direction?
No fuel at divider block Did the following Applied 12 volts o pump and it works. Ran for about 10 seconds Pulled hose off top of divider block and heard air rushing out as I Loosened it. Did the same thing again and fuel shot out under pressure Tried to start again and no luck
I am thinking maybe i did one of the following Mixed up the plug on the timing sensor on camshaft Vacume line. Not working properly to pressure regulators Fuel pump has a relay thats shot
How long to fire? Depends on how loose you left the fitting there, Hoovie. ...then I actually read your post. sjd
Is it possible to turn the cam timing inside piece 180 degrees, i did not think so. Seems odd that a fuse or something blew just by chance
Grant, it is not a disaster. This is an easy problem. Check all hoods, lids, doors to be closed Check fuel pump hose and fuel pump relay Make sure the fuel feed hose does NOT go to the fuel return port on the fuel block. M
Yes i did do all that. Found the problem a pin on a plug was not making a connection in behind the passengers seat. Thanks everyone
I believe it was a pin to the F1 system because I also had a transmission error until i fixed the pin
Grant is a trooper. I had zero doubt he would nail this. He called me tonight to celebrate his success and I was not surprised. Good work, Grant. Is it beer thirty?
No no not yet At least i can enjoy my not so sticky interior now instead of admiring it ont the shelf
So it was one of the connectors you disconnected for the engine to come out? It's always something you touch that causes the problem, isn't it?
Oh ya Thats why I eventually went back to that. I am embarrassed to say but my first problem with the F1 was I did not plug a plug all the way in. Who does that, plug a plug part way. Well me I guess.
To answer my own question for everyone, when you change the filter during an Engine out expect the engine to turn over about 20 times before it fires. This was with the lines drained as well. Which feels like forever
