    I recently picked-up a '79 308. The gas gauge reads 1/2 tank at one time, then 1/4 five minutes later...then over a half-tank, etc. Is this common to these cars? Also, when I turn-on the headlights, the left one pops-up, then down, then up again and stays up. Common?

    First one is not common. Second one happens on occaision. You probably need to replace the diodes on the headlight motor. But first try swapping the relays (see if problem moves to other headlight), as that is an easier fix, if the relay is bad. If not, then search the archives, as there has been a couple threads on fixing the diodes.

    Thanks! I'll give that a try on the headlight. When it is in the shop next week I'll ask them about the fuel gauge.
