There seems to be a consensus that the older steel injectors are better than the new brass ones. I've not had a problem with cleaning older steel injectors and/or cleaning - testing brass version.

For cleaning you better bring them to a specialist who likely cleans them ultrasonic.

That's an opinion but hardly a consensus. I and most others in this business that stay in contact have no feeling of one being superior to the other.

The places here that do ultrasonic cleaning, specifically do not do mechanical injectors.

The cost to replace them does not justify much effort cleaning the old ones.

Aside from cleaning the old injectors, the opening pressure will be questionable, and thus the flow rates. Even cleaned up, you would need to put them on an injector tester to be satisfied that they have consistent flow rates. Some say you need to test new injectors too, but I expect they would be closer.

I installed new injectors in my 84 QV last winter rather than send off the old ones for ultrasonic cleaning. Even new, the opening pressures varied - I soaked them all in carb cleaner first to clean them up, and after that they seemed pretty consistent.

Just the facts sir! I bought a 308 2Vi several years ago and after reading some posts here I decided to buy an injector tester from a MB website. There were 38K on the clock when I tested them and they all opened at the psi noted in the manual and the fan spray was perfect on all. The tester was less expensive than a set of injectors. just sayin! lost

CIS injectors were cheaply made and cheap to buy. Bosch never really intended them to be serviced. They were intended to be replaced much like spark plugs. It just happens that a few cars are still on the road that use them so the costs have gone up. Bosch isn't still making 300,000 per day.

I have had one of those at my disposal for over 30 years. I can, depending on my technique make almost any injector look good. Conversely I can make almost any injector look bad.

Injectors ~30-40 USD each...plenty low to replace. If you measure flow, just choose 8 real close (BigTex idea for me...just fine).
I just replaced mine and was quite satisfied.

Outstanding feedback one and all thank you so much. It would seem the idea of cleaning these and testing for proper spray doesn't play out very well. Sounds like its time for some new ones.if $240 solves the mystery I'm in was just afraid of giving up my old steel ones.time to move on.

Don't listen to this guy. Every user here on FChat is a certified genius. The steel ones are junk. I'll dispose of them for you free of charge.

A year ago I was going to replace all my steel injectors since I have my intake plenum off. But before I decided to buy the new ones I had my steel injectors tested and cleaned, it turned out that all my steel injectors are all good as in all have even spray patten so, I reused all of them and my car still running smooth.

And when he found out the truth you would have felt guilty and paid him something.

Really? Tell that to the FChatter that tried to sell another FChatter steel injectors at $100 a piece when they can be bought from the used bins at parts sellers for $10.

For sure don't take the truth for face value just throw your good injectors away and buy new ones!!! You will then make an idiot happy! peace, Lost

PS After you throw those bad,bad steel injectors away and replace them you may find you have an ignition problem but don't test anything just keep replacing parts until the problem is solved, it's the american way !!!

I hope that guy got "The BOOT" and called out.

I would have done it one way are another in a second.

I have already "Dropped a Dime" on one here trying to rip off someone else. Actually, I was not the only one in one particular instance.

Conversely, I will issue high praise to anyone doing a good deed for another here. Have doen that quite a few times.

There's a guy who appears on Ebay doing that pretty regularly. It would have some comedy value I suppose if it weren't for the case that because he keeps appearing it suggests people are buying the things... :(

What are you talking about??? You must be uninformed. A 30 degree spray pattern replaced with a 45 degree spray pattern shouldn't have any effect at all! Just ask the guy on here that spouts fluid dynamics yet posted a thread asking how to solve a junior high algebra problem.

Just send those old crappy steel injectors to me. ;)

No, he didn't and it wasn't my place to do so. After he read this thread, I was corrected by my fellow FChatter. He was offered them for $125 a piece and then told by person that he was uninformed when he questioned the price. Nice guy, huh? High ranking FCA guy. Yet one of many reasons I'm not an FCA member.

Yes, I have had several FChatters offer free stuff or help and I have returned the favor. This prick obviously wasn't one of them.
