Car was running rough, so I Had it in the shop a couple months back... new plugs, wires, points, distributor cap, carbs tuned, etc.....
    ran great for a month.
brought it back in the shop.... new fuel pump. Ran great for a month.

New issue is: when key turned...takes FOREVER to fire, then runs for 2 seconds & quits. Priming the carb will make it fire right away but still quits just as fast.

any thoughts? things to check before I take it back a third time in 2 months?

Vacuum or fuel tubing leak, check also carb base gaskets....

New fuel blends are dissolving YEARS of crud in our cars......I replace plugs at the first sign of misfire, but yours sounds more like fuel delivery.

Fuse is good on your new pump????

The distributor caps are rebuildable if not cracked, expensive too!

Check the ceramic resistors on the coils. Does it always start and then stall? Does the fuel pump continue to run after the car stalls or is it off. Check fuse block especially the fuel pump fuse. With ign key on do you get 12v at the coils.

Could be loads of things so do a quick check to see if it is fuel supply or electrical.
Take off one of the fuel supply pipes to a carb, stick a bit of garden hose on it, then lead it into a spare fuel can.
    Turn on the ignition.
The fuel pump should run continuously and the fuel should flow at least 1 US gall in two minutes. This little test should point you in the right direction.
Let us know what you find.

"The distributor caps are rebuildable if not cracked, expensive too!"

    Please tell me more.

I have a Euro single distributor setup and the annular graphite ring that serves as the second brush contact to the rotor arm doesn't look too good. It has a small chip out of it, probably arc generated. A new cap runs at about £320 incl tax ($500) from Superformance here in the UK so if I can just get a new ring fitted that could be a lot cheaper. As far as I can tell its otherwise okay.

Does someone do this repair does anyone know?

OK, so at the suggestion of the guy that worked on it, I had my wife crank it, and I primed it with carb cleaner. Car fired up, and when it started to stall, I kept it running with small shots of the carb cleaner. This lasted about 15-20 seconds and then it started to run on it's own. I let it warm up for 5 minutes or so and took it for a test drive.... seemed like nothing ever happened and ran great.... plenty of power and responsive. High speeds, low speeds, idle etc...
    fast forward to today:
took the car out again and it ran great for about 5 miles, then just lost ALL power and I Coasted to the side of the road. Got it started again using the same method as above....drove it home and turned it off.
At the moment.... same issue. Turn the key, fires instantly for 1 second & quits.
    NOW what are your thoughts?

I can't imagine it would be a fuse issue... I can hear my pump running. But I would think it HAS to be fuel related. Is it Possible the ethanol sh*t gasoline is letting crud run thru my lines and just randomly clogging them?

have you looked at the fuel filter that sits right by the fuel pump?
or the other fuel filter inside the fuel tank.

No, I have not checked that. Is it a simple thing to do? Does the tank need to be drained, or can I simply unscrew it? not really sure how to take off/install/check.
