    Hi all

I was preparing to take my 412 to Italy this week - I now think that is off the table <sob>. I think the No 2 car will need to go instead.

Some time ago I filled the car with fuel and left it standing for some time (this was due to an unexpected breakdown). On recovery the workshop found that fuel was coming out of the right-hand grommet for the fuel pump cables on this diagram https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/diagram/ferrari/412/010-fuel-tanks--pumps--lines (94/95). They put some mastic over the grommet and we were careful not to overfuel the car. This week I filled to 7/8 full and started to smell petrol in the boot. There was visible leakage from the same grommet and so the temporary repair was pretty useless.

I am trying to make sense of this, because even if we repair the grommet really well the fact that the right-hand tank is under so much pressure doesn't sound right, and fuel will find a way out. I know that lots of people on this forum have had quite similar problems, but this is extreme and is dangerous.

Pic #1, showing RHD aerial and two breather pipes.

Question 1: how does the right-hand tank vent to the outside world to relieve pressure?

Question 2: There are two white breather pipes appearing from the bottom of the tank and shown in the picture. I can't see these on the parts diagrams. One of the pipes has some kind of broken plastic in it. Where is it meant to go? Is it meant to be located onto the plastic nipple at the bottom of the RHD aerial (part 128890) (I know this sounds crazy)?

Question 3: Where does the other white breather go? I think it runs round to the left-hand tank.

Question 4: Where does the black breather at the top left of the disk in picture #1 go? It disappears in a forward direction and goes through a grommet.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts about this.

    Dan

The breather is routed against the rear firewall (i.e the backseat panel) were it meets the one from the left tank, both then get to a thin flat charcoal canister whose exit is under the car (above the rear axle).

That's if they did not tamper with the system.

I presume the charcoal canister is plugged or not working anymore. This is a very thin unit, not meant to work for decades.

Rubber gommer cannot resist gazoline, so you'd better use something that is truly fuel proof.
