Gentlemen, I have drip leaks at the joints of the fuel line that connects the fuel regulator output to the fuel rail input on my 1966 330GT 2+2. It's old line so I am going to replace it for safety reasons. Two questions: 1) Anyone know the inside diameter of the fuel line? 6MM, 8MM, 10MM 2) Anyone using Teflon braided steel lines? I know its not the original yellow spiral but I have had bad luck with the ethanol eating regular fuel line.
Look at the thread titled "Correct Washers". If you read down it, you will find some discussion about this issue. My poor memory is that the line you are speaking of is 8mm. It is about 4 degrees here, or I would go to the shop and measure one.
The fuel hose from the pressure regulator/filter to the fuel rail is 8mm ID. If you are getting new yellow spiral hose, you will need to get new outer ferrules as well. The outside diameter of the new production yellow hose is larger than the original hose, so the original ferrules cannot be used as they are too small and will not fit over the new hose.
GT Car Parts in Phoenix has the yellow hoses that are OK with the new fuels, and they have the correct ferrels for the ends. As Dyke listed in the "copper washer" reply, using a fuel resistant sealant ( Loktite 518) on the fittings is the best way to keep the lines dry. Jim
The Car began to stumble on quick acceleration. I took it back to the shop that installed the new yellow lines. We pulled the filters on the newly rebuilt carbs and found gunk in them that looked like melted fuel line. First new line we pulled from the rail was full of gunk which looked like jelled fuel line. We cleaned everything up and temporarily the only line which did not leak until now.
In the 1990s, there was a batch of the yellow leather wrapped fuel line produced that deteriorated and collapsed from within fairly quickly, when in use. Most of the suppliers should have sold all of that long ago. The new line seems OK, as Jim noted.
