I wanted to see if anyone else has ever encountered this problem?

I just had major engine out service performed on my 1992 348ts about 1 month ago. This issue started after that service.

The car starts, runs and shifts perfectly. There are no fluid leaks of any kind. (Car sits on a epoxy floor)

While driving (with targa top off, windows down) I get a moderate smell of gasoline. When I am at car shows, participants have asked if I had a fuel leak due to the odor when parked.

When I park the car in our garage the smell of gasoline fills the garage.

Then after approximately 3-4-5 days of sitting, the smell of gasoline diminishes to zero.

I travel for work, when I returned from this most recent week-long trip yesterday there was NO smell of gasoline whatsoever.

From my observation, since there is NO fuel leak, it seems like the gasoline vapors are escaping from somewhere while the fuel system is pressurized and as the system pressure equalizes the odor diminishes to zero.

I live in Chicago and when it is warm outside and after driving for a while, when I remove the gas cap to put fuel in, the gas tank is pressurized as I can hear it when I remove the fuel cap.

I have swapped gas caps with a friend to make sure it was not the culprit.

Has anyone else had this problem????

Take a look at the 2 vapor lines that attach to the firewall. I bet one of the connectors is broken or loose.

We put new silicone lines and used Ferrari clamps to replace the lines. Couldnt find OEM connectors or lines anywhere.

On the driver's side of the car I see what appears to be the main fuel filler line/hose going into the fuel tank and then there is a smaller plastic black bellows hose that runs parallel to the main fuel filler hose. I don't see a second vapor hose?

    See pointer.
There should be one to the side of the left hood hinge, one to the side of the right hinge.

They are really cool connectors until they get brittle, break or crack and then they aren't so cool.

I had mine tightened in place with zip ties until my mechanic looked at me during the 1st major for my ownership and said are you nuts?

Try them first..easy fix and you'll be able to tell if they are mucked up. Image Unavailable, Please Login
