Had the dreaded cracked RH fuel pump top. Smell of fuel. Sounds like it's a common thing.

Repaired that while my new pump is on it's way. Use a UV curable resin. Ultra tough. It's just a temporary fix until the new one arrives.

Tried to remove the pump for the repair but wasn't able to get it out without removing the alloy flange plate. No trouble, fixed it anyway.

Car fired up fine and drives perfect, until around 4500-5500 in 3-4 gear. Maybe 7000 in 2nd. It feels like it's running out of fuel. Massive drop in power.

So I pulled the pump and alloy flange plate out to remove it from the car. No visible issues. Dealer suggested it might have been a kinked line inside the tank. Nope. Nothing seems to be at fault. The connector wire harness that goes from the top to the bottom was unplugged, but that was most likely done as I pulled the pump out.

Refitted everything. Same issue. No power above 4500 or so in 3 or 4th.

Checked fuel pressure at both fuel rails. (Just pushed in the little valve). Nice little squirt of fuel so it's getting SOME to both rails.

    Thoughts?

Sounds like a rhetorical exercise. I’d not waste any more time, effort or money until the replacement pump come in then install it. If u have problems then re-post. -ray

I'd be extremely apprehensive on driving the car in that condition. Better IMHO to leave it garaged til the pump is changed out.

Can you describe this more "it feels like it's running out of fuel"?

This is a symptom that a lot of assumptions can root from. Fuel pumps typically gives a chugging feel when it's going bye-bye. Did you feel this chugging where it feels like for a moment there's air in the fuel lines instead of actual fluid flowing?

The chug should be similar to feeling when your in a high 6K RPM on second gear and suddenly let go of gas. That kind of chugging feel is what I'm referring to. Did you feel this when it loss it's power at 4500?

It feels exactly as it would it you were to back off the throttle slowly. It's not an instant loss of power. But it's there. It almost feels like it goes to half throttle.

You have no warning lights right? Did you check the results from the OBD2 scanner? I know it sounds like a fuel supply situation but don't want to discount ECU maybe restricting a particular RPM due to lurking issues.

Check the actual fuel pressure with a gauge and check the fuel flow/delivery to see if it is low. It sounds like a fuel problem

Could the cut in power be from the timing being retarded, as if it detected spark knock? Still under power but more like coasting and stuck at 4500 than wanting to accelerate through 4500?

    No codes on obd2 scan.

Removed the pump again. There was a bit of dirt in the beige bucket part of the pump and a film of dirt on the filter screen. Not sure it was enough to limit fuel flow that much, but all clean now.

Let's see if that fixes it...

And it appears to be fixed. Seems the dirt was enough to limit flow.

    Thanks guys.

And.... it's not fixed. Drove perfect for an hour though!

I'll just wait until the new pump arrives. I've had enough 'fun' for now.

    Totally agree.
Attach a Pressure gauge and run it up past 4500 rpm. See if the FP changes drastically
