    Hi guys,

A question for those with a Euro GT4 (not many, I know):

Is it just with my car or a design flaw that I am suffering from? Every time there is more than 3/4 fuel in my tanks and I am doing a prolonged righthander, I get a rather severe fuel spill from my tanks, coming from the vent line that starts right under the fuel cap and ends mere inches in front of a rather hot (and flaming) exhaust. Reports are of a very distinct cloud of fuel coming from my car under those circumstances.

    Not nice...

The way I think it is happening is that with a righthander, all fuel is pushed to the lefthand tank (you can clearly see the fuel gauge showing that too), and then out of the vent line.

I can see two easy fixes:

1: clog this vent line and cut a new one in the top air tube, near #67 in the pic. Since it is in the center, no amount of fuel sloshing will ever flood this point. Merely drilling a hole in that tube should do, although fitting an overflow tube to it will do no harm (and sounds like a wise precaution, given the location right above the exhaust headers of the front bank).

    or

2: lengthen the overflow tube and route it from the location on the lefthand side to the far righthand side of the car. Again, no amount of sloshing will push any fuel out of it then.

    Ideas, comments?

    Thanks

    Hans

    Hans,

Right or wrong, I'd vote for number two and route the hose WAY out the rear end of the car.

Are you 100% SURE there are NO cracked lines, tubes or hoses ANYWHERE?

    Hi Hans,
Sounds like a perished hose to me, I had same problem and for me was the large rubber filler hose, it's quite frightening, the last thing you need is vapourised fuel in a place thats hot and the risk of any spark whatsoever, I would personally remove the wheel arch bellow the filler side and have a look before anything else.

I can fill the tank to the brim without any leaking (so that hose will be full of fuel at that time). It only leaks in cornering, and the fuel is clearly coming from that overflow hose.

Having said that, I'm replacing the brake pads tomorrow, so I'll have the wheels off anyway. Might as well take the wheel well out for a minute and check hose integrity.

    Thanks

I was thinking the same thing but it seems that there must be something else wrong here. Can't see this being a design flaw. Doesn't happen on mine, that I know of.

Hans -- You might also check the conditions of hoses 23, 24, and 27. These hoses are normally not wetted, but if they are cracked and letting air leaking in, it might contribute to letting fuel leak out of the vent tube under lateral acceleration (i.e., if it is a well-closed system, except for the vent tube, liquid wouldn't be able to come out the vent tube if there was nowhere for air to come in). Same for the filler cap -- it should be well-sealed. Just a thought (I can't believe that every euro 308 spews fuel on turns, but it hasn't been mentioned before)...

All easily visible hoses are top notch, but I'll check the rest tomorrow. It's time for her annual check anyway, better do it right then...

    Brake fluid change
    Oil + filter change
    Brake pad change
    Check all fuel lines
    Check all coolant hoses
Carefully check tyres (when they're off anyway for the brake pads)
    Check all high tension leads
    Spark plugs are already new
Carbs are finally set right - not going to mess with those
Clean and relube K&N filter element
Check and set lighting alignmen (needed after everything came apart with the respray)

I've got plenty to do tomorrow.

    Anything I'm forgetting?
