Has anyone used a fuel stabilizer they can recommend. Basically keeps the fuel from going gummy for up to 2 years, if you have to store the car.

I can't really recommend any from personal experience, but I did a little reading on the subject when I got fuel cans for my backup generator.

From what I hear, StaBil forms a layer on top of the fuel to separate it from the air above.
By contrast, SeaFoam mixes with the fuel, but includes a carb cleaner to offset the effects of the older fuel.

You can get varying reports on both, using Google.

I bought SeaFoam for my generator fuel, but I haven't had it sitting long enough to report any results.

(Besides: In keeping with the maximum perversity of the Universe principle, we haven't had a power outage since I bought the generator --- the first winter we didn't have ice take down overhead lines.)

I'm pretty sure the fuel that's been sitting in the Alfa for seven years will have to be discarded and replaced before I fire it up.
(A pity, as it doesn't have any ethanol. ;))

I have several cars that get stored for extended periods. I've always used Sta-bil with good results. Contrary to what DGS posted, it mixes with the gas, doesn't form a layer on top. The container lists various concentrations recommended for different storage periods.

I like the Lucas injector cleaner as an upper end lubricant plus it stabilizes the crappy gas we have now especially if it's left sitting. It supposedly pays for itself in better fuel economy too? Older cars seem to run better with this stuff. The product isn't solvent based which would make sense if you're trying to lubricate injectors and clean the upper end. 3oz per every 10 gallons.

Thanks guys, I might try the Lucas product then, as I can get it from an outlet close by.
