On my 78' GTS, I seem to be missing a part from my fuel system. On the right-front carb, there is (what I assume) a fuel return hose going to the right tank. TAV 11 shows something looking like a check valve inline here, but I am missing it. The part number is 111197. I checked around a little and it appears this bugger is NLA.

Is it indeed a fuel check valve? Am I ok not having one? If I need one, where can I get one?

Robert, thanks for the picture. Anyone know for sure if this is a check valve and where I can get one? Or asked a different way, do I need it? I'm assuming by the arrow in the parts diagram that it's a check valve designed to allow excess fuel to the carbs flow back into the right tank, but not from the tank back to the carbs when the fuel pump is off. I can't determine if this is necessary or not.

Yes, it is a check valve. Eurospares shows it as still available:

but you might check with the US F dismantlers for a better price ;)

I believe its function is as a safety feature. If your chassis goes upside-down, fuel will flow (by gravity) out of the RH fuel tank into, and out, of the carburettors -- not so good when you are upside-down ;)

I'm trying to recall if my 1976 -77s have that...

The 1978s had a lot of stuff like that added, trying to control fuel evaporation fumes.

    My '77 definitely has it.

Well, if the chassis is upside down, I think I have bigger problems than fuel coming through a 1/4" hose :) I'll do some more poking around to see if I can find one at a reasonable price.

Exactly :) Forget about it..... no one at the EPA / DOT inspection station is going to notice it's missing. If not having it bugs you, go to NAPA, and get a generic, fuel-rated c-valve for $9 and install it.

I think it is either that or has a round about evap function. I don't think I have seen it in any non US emission era book. I any event as for function the cars run well without it.

Preventing liquid fuel from coming out of a vehicle can certainly be included as part of the fuel evaporation control system ;), but the F documentation shows that early US version 308 (from circa 1973/4 to 1976) have fuel evaporation control systems and no check valve; whereas, the return line check valve and the silly Driver's seat fuel pump switch were added together in 1977 (and after) US version 308.
