The left side fuel pipe sleeve on my 328 appears to be original and looks awful (pic below). So when I drain the tanks to replace the fuel pump, accumulator, and other assorted lines in the next couple weeks, I want to replace that tank sleeve too.

The sleeve on the right side was replaced about 5 years ago by the previous owner's mechanic when they had the right tank out to do some other work, and that looks great (they used the proper hose and everything). Part of me wonders why they didn't do both sleeves at that time, but oh well.

I am wondering if it will be easy to replace just the left sleeve and have enough room to work to get the new hose piece on without having to remove the entire pipe or disturb the right side. My thinking is that if I have to wrestle the crap out of things just for the left sleeve, I might be better off removing both sleeves and dismounting the pipe for more breathing room to work (would put new sleeves and clamps on both sides in that case). On the other hand, if I can do the left sleeve in place, that saves an awful lot of extra work.

Has anyone done just one sleeve with the pipe and tanks fixed in place? Is it even doable?

For piece of mind I would just do both at the same time.

IMO while you are there, change both.
It’s easier, you don’t risk damaging one while struggling to insert the other, you have drained the gasoline. Plus you won’t need to do the other in a couple of years.

I replaced all the hoses I could. Even re-sleeved the ends of the crossover pipe and fuel tank pipes to take a standard hose size.

I already got a 3' stick of hose for the sleeves, was about $60 if I remember right. Took a while to find the correct stuff.

I just did mine a few days ago. Might as well do both as you'll have to slide the pipe in and out of the other hose to fit the new one , a real PITA. I bought mine from SUPERFORMANCE.UK LTD

I've replaced the one on the passenger side of my '87 328GTS. As I recall I soaped up both pieces of the pipe and the piece of hose so the hose can be slid over one pipe end far enough to get it started on the other.
