I have only had my car about 6 months but in the last month or so I just started seeing fuel vapors coming out of the back lid. Not real heavy but some. I'm not sure if it's always been there or not, maybe. Is this normal?

    Thanks,
    Steve

No smell of fuel and no leaks. All hoses have been changed.

Interesting. Any oil leaks that could be burning off? The motors run very hot, so I"m never suprised to see the heat coming thru the louvers....
I'm at a loss beyond this.

Small oil leak. Its kinda like the gas vapors you see while you are sitting in traffic, I only see it at a stop. Probably nothing to worry about. Thanks Jim

Are you talking about a wavery look to objects viewed through the rear-view mirror? If so, you may just be seeing the heat distortion. These motor pump out a LOT of heat

If there's no smoke and no smell, it probably is just the heat distortion.

I was having a problem with gas boiling out of the carbs and called Pierce Manifolds. They told me that the enigne compartment goes up to about 400 degrees farenhiet after you shut the engine down. At least I think that was the number. At any rate, your engine compartment gets pretty hot after shut down. If it worrys you, open the rear deck lid after you park it. I understand that this would be akward in a public setting. I don't think you have a probelm though. Hot performance equals hot engines. On your way home give your car a cool down lap, so to speak.

I finally solved my fuel boiling problem by making the strap switch a regualar switch so that when I'm backing into my driveway I can turn off the fuel. When I park it I let it run for a few minutes until the RPM starts to drop off and then there's very little fuel to boil out. I mounted the switch on the floor out of the way and out of sight.

The reason I went with a switch instead of just by passing the strap switch is so that if I'm ever car-jacked, then the thief will go about a quarter mile and the car quits. If he wants to came back for me I have time to disappear, and at the same time he won't go far enough to do very much damage to the car. Also, if they stay there long enough trying to get it started, then maybe they'll get caught. I keep my phone in my pocket when I'm in the car. Also it's handy to turn it off when I want to turn on the ignition for some reason and don't want the fuel pump pumping fuel into the carbs. It's handy to turn off the fuel if you park the car in a public lot too. It's just a little piece of mind.

In case you don't know about the strap switch, it's a switch set in your drivers seat. The fuel pump will only pump if there's weight in the seat which presses the two elements together that provides power to the pump. Aint those little Italian cars neat?

If it leaks any oil, it could be that oil is getting blown back onto the exhaust pipes and is burning off.

Yes, that is about it. I don't smell anything and with the motor running and the lid up I can't see anything.

That is if it's not bypassed like my car and I suspect a lot other's. I like the idea though!
