I was wondering how popular the manual transmission are versus F1. It seems most people opt for the F1. I was wondering if there are any manual owners here and if there are any guesses as to how many have been sold compared to the F1 option.

I have a preference for manual cars in all the sports and exotics that I have owned IMO its the best way to enjoy the car.

To be polite I will tell you to do a search. That is the most reposted question here on FChat. I'm sure if you do a search you will find 20 or more threads about the issue.

Try a search for "f1 vs 6 speed" or F1 vs Manual"

I'm driving an M5 now as a daily car and that experience convinced me to order the new F600 with manual instead of F1.
    Hate the SMG/F1/E-Gear

Both. Mechanically linked paddle shift w/a clutch pedal that you don't need to bother with once under way.

There's something about hearing the clink of the gate and manually blipping the throttle between shifts

Sounds are, very much, a part of the Ferrari Experience ;)

I have yet to warm up to the klunky, klanky, squeaky sound of the gear shifting mechanism. Having said that, I am absolutely sold on the 6-speed and absolutely not sold on the F1.

The biggest problem with the 6 speed manual is getting one these days. Ferrari, for some reason, isn't filling orders for them. Could it be they like the extra profit on the F1?

Once you get used to it it will seem very different to you. Coming from almost any other make to a Ferrari usually causes comments on the shifters.

They are meant to be shifted very purposefully and not nonchalantly like your average Japanese car. Not that those are bad, just different.

Think Tazio Nuvolari sweaty and dirty in a P3 Alfa, the Italians don't really want to change that.

I have had both and must say I prefer the stick shift simply because there is nowhere to hang your sports cap to dry after a long run while you have a coffee. It is too hard to hook it over the paddles.

    For me, manual anytime.
F1 disconnects you from an important part of the driving experience.

Go and get a MB then.

I really like the F1. Not better than manual, just different. Instead of hand and foot you are usung both hands. Still takes the proper concentration to drive well (smooth). One thing about manual-atleast you can count on getting into reverse. My F1 is acting up-my reverse button relay isn't working and I can't get it into reverse.

Well said and I must agree totally. The only sports cars that I tired of were automatics.

My 612 has a manual trans and i love the way it drives , but if i wear tennis shoes i really have to watch the way i place my feet , its a REAL tight fit between throttle the brake and the clutch . if i am in dress shoes or cowboy boots it is not as bad.
