As a new person on this forum, I was looking for suggestions for fun weekend drives in my 8 yr old 360 (1 yr old to me). I'm on the SF peninsula and really enjoy the ride up 84 to Skyline, and then over to the beach; sometimes going south on Hwy 1 and returning up Hwy 9 through Boulder Creek. Would like to get some other ideas from you folks.

    Thanks, Carl

You may want to subscribe to pashnit. While it's a cycle site, they do feature technical roads for those who appreciate them. It all depends what you consider a good road and your willingness to learn. While the local roads can be fun, they are often much bumpier than roads elsewhere. So look at roads in the Gold Country and in the valleys between 101 and 5. They are often highly technical, but rewarding for folks who like a corner or two or three. If you look to roads in Oregon or near the border, there are some gems to enjoy.

    Hi Carl

Any interest in hitting up the mountain roads next weekend (12/18 or 12/19)?

I live in Foster City and do the same roads you mentioned.

I drove the Highway 9 through Boulder Creek over the weekend. Great drive with minimal traffic (except for the guy in the VW who wanted to race...I sped away from him but when he caught up and rode my bumper I let him pass). There is also a great drive out on the backroads of Almaden (San Jose) to Watsonville. PM me if you want to arrange a drive some weekend.

A couple of the roads suggested on the Pashnit website that I just drove are fabulous: Redwood road north of Castro Valley, and Polamares road south east of Castro Valley. Nice and twisty with little traffic.

Add in a couple of miles of 237 to that 5 o'clock blast, and you're set.

Carl, welcome. We generally refrain from posting our favorite routes because of the potential for unwelcome guests showing up to spoil the fun. Check out the FOG thread in this section. There's a group of us that go on a drive every other Saturday in Marin. We have regulars who come from as far away as the San Jose area and even Sacramento, so please feel free to join us! Next drive is next Saturday.

I used to live in PA, and as great as the area is, it's a long trip to get from there to interesting roads, Western foothills accepted. There are a smattering of roads leading towards the coast everyone knows about, but the number of great roads increases exponentially if you're willing to drive 2 hours from PA to get to them. In this case, it would be better to live in Petaluma or Hollister, IMHO.
