Stunning pictures Armen! Much appreciated. :)
Back in the 80's when I was schooling in the US. Driving pass Newport Autosport was a great exciting time. I remembered I saw a race Porsche 935 with whale tail and Martini strip. I think it was the old showroom then. near Redondo beach, did i have the place right??? Anyway, any pictures of the old showroom???
Funny that you mention that. There was a place called Trend Imports where the car wash is now. That candyapple red 512BB was taken there. (at the time) we invested some money in that dealership. (big mistake!!!)They also had a place in Redondo Beach. Also there was a Newport Imports down the street.
Awesome pictures, please continue playing with your scanner as I'm sure you have tons of good pictures. -Keith-
Great pics Armen. For pure day to day fun I can't think of a better job than owning a place like Newport but in reality was it all it was cracked up to be? Looking at these cars everyday would be unreal but I hear it is more of a passion than a serious money maker. Would you get back into the biz or have you had your fix? I guess you can look at your own collection any day anyway so I would guess you are done. Thoughts? Jeff
It was a job. You have good days & bad days. We made GREAT money, but I rather enjoy collecting than Selling.
Straman 456 Convertible conversion. Sold many times over. Mike Sheehan has sold it, its been ebay (i think) and its been sold at auctions. Its supercharged too. Kinda wierd imo. there was some info on it on the sheehan site but i can't find it.
Sometime this year, I should be visiting Los Angeles. Taking the kids to Disneyland, the wife to Rodeo Drive. It would be a great treat if I could visit Newport Autosport... If they charge same price for visitors as they charge in Disneyland, it would be lovely. ....Armen, from pictures of your Newport Autosport it sure is one of the great attraction of Los Angeles... (another business idea, you know)
Hey Armen, do you remember quite a while ago when one of those dating shows had a couple show up at the dealership and one of the salesperson opened 360 Modena for the girl and let her sit in and start it?
wow awesome pics, thanks for sharing! ..feelin a lil Vice City in here with all the 80's pics at the beginning of page 1 lol
I have a few pics from Newport Autosport when the McLaren F1 was there, but I have to find a scanner. They're pics of the the McLaren F1, F40, and 288 GTO parked side by side.
NewPort Auto - are they located right on HWY 1 just South of Dana Point? Or just North of? The dealership looks very familiar. I believe I stopped in and took some snap shots (somewhere around here) a few years ago.
O.K., this one is a little funky for me. We never owned this '83 Boxer, so probably someone was offering it to us in 1987 and we never bought it. I see why! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey Armen, excellent pictures. I just have to ask you. I'm sure you've driven the Mclaren before. How is it?!! Is it the most amazing, powerful vehicle you've ever driven, or what? I just need to know. It's probably the only car i'd take over any Ferrari.
well..the Enzo IS more powerful, is it not? While the McLaren obviously deserves recognition, especially considering how is compares to cars with 10 years of additional technology, I would think that compared to the Enzo, and even other supercars, the McLaren is no longer king. It might be faster on top, or quicker in the 1/4 (depending on gear settings), but overall I would think the Enzo come out ahead, especially on a twisty track. However, I have never driven either of them (have never even seen either of them in person!), so, I cant really say any of this with confidence. But I dont think McLaren is king anymore.
