My new 2003 360 with 5,900 mi just had the major service including new belts , timing belt etc (the dealer agreed to do it when I bought the car) I have just noticed that when I start the car (from cold only) something back there makes a scree-scree-scree sound for about five to ten seconds and then it goes away. I am all worried that it is a timing belt tensioner that is going to seize and cause a disaster or something! I called the dealer (he is two thousand miles away, one of the downsides of importing a car into Canada) he said that it was no big deal. Problem is that I am convinced that it is making the noise louder and longer. Should I worry? Apart from that the car runs like a top and I want to use it this holliday weekend (Canada day dont you know!)
I only hope so! The dealer said it was probably an iddler pully that has a sticky bearing that just needs to heat up. I just do not want to make a minor situation into a melt down by not doing anything. If it is a belt slipping do I need to tighten something? I can't even see anything.
nope it sounds like when I had my last 5 series BMW and I remember a similar sound that led up to the water pump needing to be changed. Then it did it all the time and loud. This is just a yagga yagga yagga yagga for a few seconds and then it gets faint and then disappears alltogether tell the next morning. I am new to this car and it is the first time I own a big bucks ride so I may be a bit paranoid that I am going to end up with a thirty grand repair two weeks after buying a 170 grand car. Maybe I'm just being a wuss but what can I say. P.S. It is amazing how much I rely on the spell check! As there is none here I have to constantly check words elsewhere (I am a highschool drop out who made good)
Just started it again from cold (this time with the glass hood open) and it most definatly sounds like a slipping belt. I can't actually see the belts up front. Could it be that they did not adjust the tightness of the alternator steering belt? How does one check it?
