In 30+ years of owning Ferraris, THAT is the most common comment. It's the horse. Then when you tell them (politely), that it is a Ferrari....... 9 times out of 10 the next comment is, "Who makes that"?

Not really encouraged, I was determined and had been looking at getting a Ferrari for a few years before hand. She gave me all the right messages to allow it to go ahead. That was until it was the time to buy..

    Précis goes like this:-

I wish you would own a boring car but a Ferrari is OK I guess :(
Why did you buy that piece of 23 years old ****box Italian reliability liability?
I'm sick of wasting money on that piece of old ****, wished you'd have bought the Mustang at least it would have been cheaper on parts.
I want a divorce before you and that car ruin me. :D

Fortunately my fiancee loves cars and encourages me to buy them :)

How odd, why would somebody think you don't know what car you own :p

This is not a comment about my car, but I figured those who subscribe to this thread would appreciate this story. I work on 6th Ave in NYC. I was walking home (up 6th) and traffic was at a standstill. I was passing a hotel and to my super sensitive Ferrari peripheral vision picked up a red Ferrari stuck in traffic with music blasting. An SUV was pulling into traffic from the curb and cut him off and the Ferrari driver seemed annoyed. It was a brand news 488 coupe (red with darker tan interior). So I slow down to admire the car (I own a 458 Spider in red) and for some reason I decide to lower my head (I'm up on a curb so I can't see the face of the driver) and I decide to see who is driving. Low and behold it's Tracy Morgan! He's jamming to tunes and traffic is barely creeping. I walk a few paces and say to myself, ah what the heck. I went over to his car (his window was down) and said hello and said I have a 458 also and asked him how he liked the 488. In his own language that I can't describe he said he loved it. I explained that I saw him last summer on the Upper East Side in his Lamborghini Aventador spider. I pulled out my phone and showed him a picture of the interior of my 458 and he said, while holding my phone, something like, "Ah, you are making me work harder!" I said I was glad he was feeling better and he praised his God while pointing to the sky. I said I wish we were closer to my place so I could show him my car and go for a drive with him. I said goodbye and didn't ask for an autograph or picture. As I walked away, others finally noticed and started going up to the car with their cameras.

It was one of those great celebrity sitings in NYC. Tracy was friendly, funny and cool. Cheers to him for being such a great guy and trusting me with approaching him and his car.

And recently survived and recovered from a devastating automobile crash that had him in critical condition for a good while, hence the good to see you doing better comments.

Known to be a car guy from way back, did a few seasons on Saturday Night Live, and more recently did a fantastic job playing a parody of himself as the self absorbed narcissistic TV personality on the series 30 Rock.

Cool you got to chat about cars with him for a bit.

Not a Ferrari here, but an Aston Martin.

I get the 'what Jag is that'-question quite often.

"sure does. these cars only run on gold infused oil. the gold in the oil takes all the wear, so the mechanical parts stay in prime condition. don't get me started on the coolant...!"

Try to not get goaded into mudslinging with a 7 yr old brat ;)
If Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes have taught us anything, it's that it never ends well for the grown up. Even if "...he started it!"

This is exactly why that we sometimes here in Europe, can't help but uttering "Americans..." and then roll our eyes when some people open their mouth.

These people really need to travel and experience the world - or the educational system needs a reformation. There are things going on outside of the US borders.

Knowledge of exotic car brands should be part of course curriculum?
Some people just aren't that into cars. Cut them some slack.

USA is the best..why would we ever wanna go anywhere else? Especially if it means having to deal with condescending Europeans?

Heck, I wish I never developed an interest or knowledge in sports cars..I'd be retired.

Of course it shouldn't. But you have to live under a rock if you have never heard of Ferrari. I've yet to come across someone who didn't. And honestly, if you know what a Mustang is and you don't know what a Ferrari is? That's a bit like knowing Ford but not having heard of Fiat.
