While getting used to my 575's personality, I've noticed a funny sound it occasionally makes while driving, and occasionally with the key turned to the on position.

It sounds like running water from behind the dash, or along the firewall on the driver's side under the hood. The sound could even be compared to running through light gravel and hearing it hitting the wheel wells. It's not the same sound as the fuel pump priming the system at startup. Nothing seems to be operating abnormally, and there is no sign of leaking. I am just curious if you guys have noticed this on your cars or possibly know what it might be? Thanks for any help!

It could be caused by a couple of things. If the a/c system is low on refrigerant, it can cause a sound like running water from behind the dash intermittantly. The expansion valve on the bulkhead is the source of the noise. Your a/c may still have enough gas to be working o.k but still create this problem. Secondly, there is a second coolant pump (electric), mounted to the bulkhead below the battery tray. It's only reachable by removing the left front wheel and wheel housing. As long as the coolant level is o.k and all the functions of the heating system are working, it's likely to be the former of the two. Get your a/c gas level checked.
