Guys, As I was driving on I 76 today in philadelphia, an 18 wheeler was honking at me. The funny thing is, is that his horn was a ferrari horn. He then pulled up next to me and honked his other horn and was waving frantically and giving me a thumbs up! An 18 wheeler with a Ferrari horn. Who would of thought?
Er, how did you know it was a Ferrari horn? ... do they sound different or something? ... or was it on the outside of his truck with the horsey on it ? Pete
It sounded like a Ferrari. I thought another Ferrari was honking at me. Then when I looked to my left rear, it was a tractor trailor. He honked about ten times.
When I bought my '79 Alfa, it had anemic electric horns. That sounded so wrong on an Italian car. So I picked up a set of two-tone "european" air horns at a local accessories shop. My mechanic fabricated up a neat set of brackets to mount it, and wired it with a switch to let me select electric, air, or both horns. The "both" position works well, because the spool-up delay on the air horns means that a short poke at the horn (say, to remind a distracted driver that the light has gone green) only gets the quieter electric "meep" horn, while leaning on the horn (when someone changes lanes without looking) gets the full Italian automotive expression, with hand gestures. (I actually saw the dimple appear on the roof when one sleep-driver woke up, suddenly.) Now I just need to rig the Japanese car with a WAV module to give it a "Godzilla" horn.
I stand to be corrected but cars prior to the 360 have a 'fog' (loud!!!) horn which sounds 'so Italian', I dont know why but with the 360 (not sure about the 612 or the Enzo) Ferrari changed this and now the horn sounds silly.
