Blick's Roger Benoit got the insider information in Kualu Lumpur: Kimi has signed with Ferrari. Actually even a year ago, before Alonso made his move to McLaren.

Apparently everybody at Ferrari knows it, they just haven't announced it yet.
    http://www.blick.ch/sport/formel1/artikel35102

To me that's the best news from the Scuderia in a long time.

If this is true, then it cements Kimi's future reputation as the best driver to never win a championship.

    Ture!

Unitl Ferrari shows that they can win again on a regular basis, I'd be looking for a loophole in that contract.

LOL, you're brutal. With a good chance of being right.

I honestly think it is for real. Blick and Benoit wouldn't make such a statement unless they're really sure. Also it simply makes sense.

Note how they leave a question mark about the team lineup for 2007. The question mark is not about Kimi, but whether MS will stay on. Would be fun to see them in the same car, but my hunch is, that won't happen.

I haven't seen this reported anywhere else ... so how reliable is Blick?

Anyway it would be good for Ferrari to get Kimi and good for Kimi financially. But will Ferrari be good for a WDC? Who knows?

Kimi and Schumi .. it even rhymes :)

This is fantastic news. He's my favorite driver, so I'll finally be able to root for Ferrari.

Look like JPM also has a better chance of staying with McLaren now as well.

Blick is not too bad when it comes to reliability. They are a LOT better than German Bild.

The key point here is, that the reporter is Roger Benoit, a F1 veteran of 40 years. He only covers F1 and he only does it now because it is his hobby, his life. He wouldn't make this kind of story up to get a quick fix. He has a reputation at stake. I'm taking his words to the bank.

The fact that you haven't seen it anywhere else, doesn't bother me. Benoit is faster than the rest of the world.

I think it's Michael Schmidt from AMuS who informed Benoit.

    Quote:
    ------------------------------------------------
Officially the contract will be verified at the end of May beginning of June according to TS (turun sanomat) info. Kimi and his managers still deny that a decision about the next season has been made. TS says this is natural because only team can publicise these kind of megacontracts. The confirmation for the news comes from the Williams camp(!). The contract with Ferrari has no clauses. Kimi will be a Ferrari man from 1st of January 2007 no matter if Schumacher is still driving or not. According to AMuS coming out on wednesday Kimi signed the contract with Ferrari already before 2005 season began.

Michael Schmidt who has verified the story on several fronts assures TS (turun sanomat) that the information is bulletproof reliable. According to AMuS Schumacher could not give Ferrari management a firm answer about 2007 before the beginning of 2005 season. This forced Jean Todt to react swiftly and secure that Ferrari has a star driver available in the case Schumacher will quit at Ferrari. They knew Räikkönen's contract with McLaren would expire in 2006 and Todt instantly reacted. Although Schumacher is now almost certain that he wants to continue the hurdle about continuing is Kimi's employment. Presumably Schumacher is now testing himself against Massa. If he has no trouble beating the Brazilian the German veteran could still drive against Räikkönen. The best case scenario for Ferrari is Räikkönen/Schumacher. If that doesn't work out Massa still has hope. Rossi will more probably drive Red Bull rather than Ferrari.

F1Racer, thanks for your post, *VERY* interesting news and confirmation of the Blick message.

Also very interesting the statement above regarding Massa, MS and Rossi. Seems like the puzzle pieces are falling into place.

    Well, here is my translation:

London - Blick received the important clue recently at the Kuala Lumpur airport. "I'm surprised" this person said, "I'm suprised that Ferrari hasn't officially announced the transfer of Kimi a long time ago!"

This person is no stranger in the factory at Maranello: "For months in all departments at Ferrari they talk openly about this transfer."

And for months the rumours have circulated the globe - now we even know, that the Fin living in Wollerau <Switzerland> already signed with the "Reds" a year ago. Hence even before McLaren Mercedes could get Alonso from Renault, which caused a big stir in December 2005.

I doubt it. To me Kimi is the fastest driver out there. When it comes to raw speed I think nobody can match him. Speedwise I'd say MS is even struggling with Massa right now. But winning races is not just about speed.

Olcyk, interesting comment about the French papers and Montoya. Could you give us some more information? Feel free to post it in French, I could translate.

That is exactly what is worrying me .. he should be 0.5 secs per lap ahead not 0.1 or 0.2. Massa is no Raikkonen or Alonso for sure.

Anyway maybe I am wrong and Michael will blast hime into the weeds over the rest of the season :)
