Hello folks names Matt and I am looking at getting my very first Ferrari. It is a 1992 348TS with a 355 kit on it. I am posting a link to where the car is at. I know the owner of the lot very well and will be trading in one of my H1 Hummers for it. If you guys can tell me anything and everything to look at, listen to, ponder over and think about that would be great.
I have always wanted to own a Ferrari and now I can. The H1 is a great machine but I don't need two.
    here is the link

    Thanks in advance everyone

the h1 value is about 40k.
    no cash will trade hands.
he has been sitting on this one for about 2 years now and it is killing his over head.

I was reading threads about MX cost. You talking 1000 a year wow thats cheep. just for me to replace all the ball joints and tie-rods on 1 hummer it is over 1000 with me doing the work.
i have built several hotrods so turning a wrench is fun and I am anal bout keeping stuff clean.
    thanks guys

The rear bumper bar is strange, it looks unusual around the number plate area.

Do you think there might be a reason why this has sat on a lot for a long time, other than it being a 348 in 355 clothing i would be checking into its history very carefully. I know a swap for a H1 makes it tempting but the H1 might be easier to move on again if you decided to sell, this 348 will have to be a keeper i feel.

Something about it just doesn't feel right to me. (Gut instinct) :(

The one on the 348 appears to be a "sort of looks like" aftermarket of the OE 355 bumper.... .......... but since it is a 'look alike' anyway...... it should not be any worse either way...... ;)

355 has a thin grill above the taillights too, all the way across.

I would run away from this car, personally. Unless you want to keep it to the grave...'cause you will have the same trouble selling it that they are.

Ferraris are not a car where you want to play six of one, half dozen of another. A 348, and a 355 are there own animal. For the same price you can get a true 348 or for a bit more a true 355. Kit cars are made for Volkswagons turning into 917's or GT40's not for Ferraris.

    7,000 Post's Goth, Congrats!

I agree, i wouldn't put any money into this one, I would leave the deal on the table and go looking around, you might be suprised with what deals can be be put together on a good tidy example of a 355, or a 348 if that's your choice.

No need to rush, i doubt this one will sell in the next few weeks.

I"d go ahead and do the deal, Drive it a few years and I'll bet it's going to be worth more than the H1 will be.

Hell, ya could probably part it out on eBay for more that the H1 would be worth in three years.

Seems like a budget way of finding out if you really want a Ferrari, and you still have a Hummer

Finally, he's not a lurker anymore.

I agree. I'd say get a clean original 355 if that's what you like, or a clean original 348. I think this Frankenstein-mobile could be hard to sell if you decide to move on at some point.

Also, not sure I'd be looking for my first Ferrari from a Cadillac dealer. For $40K, you can get a good 308 or 348. Sport Auto in NC has a decent 348 with an asking price ~$44K, and they know what they're selling. And, Jim Lyons here in San Diego has a decent black one: http://www.sportscarcompany.com/detail-1990-ferrari-348-ts-2600186.html. You could probably negotiate a trade with Jim.

If you're buying your first Ferrari, I think in the long run you'll do better to get an honest car. My two pence...

I'm just thinking about $8.00/gal. gas in three years

I've no idea of Hummer values, but I do have two diesel Excursions, both practically worthless now.

The hummer was produced for 14 years and less then 12000 were ever made.
I just love the looks of the Ferrari and can get one now SO I WILL
