One thing that crops to mind is design of the steering wheel - he was the one who aksed for more buttons and settings to be within fingers reach.

When you get a chance to, go back and read/watch all you can about the world of F1 starting from the 1980's. The fact is, there has always been a "#1" driver in every team. May not have been as obvious, but that doesn't change the fact that it existed since then. It is only natural for a team to gravitate toward one driver or another, you will never achieve a true equal status. Are you aware of the fued between Prost and Senna? Do you honestly believe that Senna's chief mechanic and set-up crew are all equal to Prost's crew? Let's not forget that Senna was Honda's favorite adopted son. Williams lost the Honda engine because of Senna going to McLaren, and Lotus retained Honda engine because Honda wanted a Japanese driver, similar to Sato being in BAR (To give credit where it is due, Sato is also probably the best Japanese F1 driver so far). Do you actually think that Ricardo Patrese or Thiery Boutsen (spelling??) all share the same status in Williams with Mansell? What about Nelson Piquet and Mansell in Williams? Mika Hakkinen with David Coultar at McLaren? Prost with Damon Hill at William? Mansell with Hill, Senna with Hill and Prost with Hill at William? The list can just go on and on. A team can't even provide and produce the for the same driver an exact same car from one day to another (due to too many variables that ranges from weather to track) let along for two drivers. And if you really think that JPM and KR will really be on equal terms in 2005, than you will probably be willing to buy a swampland in South Florida from Ron Dennis too. If anything at all, Ferrari should have not been so honest and so evident on who their #1 driver is.

And as for MS not having any drivers of his equal, even if that is the case, MS had to over come superior cars from Williams and McLarens just to be competitive. He won the freaking WDC on a freaking Ford V8 bolted to the back of his Benneton for crying outloud. And let's face it, the Ferrari F1 entries from 1996-1999 were not exactly the state of art either.

Again, you being a F1 and Senna fan is cool, I can respect that. But to make such an unresponsible statement is simply silly.

I hope he didn't mean that like it sounded. I'll just assume he means that it won't be hard to find a driver who wants to come to Ferrari.

What I can't understand is a lot of "fans" misunderstanding of the number 1 driver. Every team will have one driver who will be faster due to ability, car comfort (setup), etc., etc. These self proclaimed fans and experts bemoan this FACT as somehow being unfair and partial. THink about it! Why would a team/engine builder give preferential treatment to a driver with lesser ability?!?! All you folks who crab about MS and RB, MH and DC, JPM and RS-now KR, DH and AS - my gosh, pick your combo, "I wish they would just let them race! (insert whiny tone)" "THey do not have equal equipment!" Blah, blah, blah... THe bottom line in F1 is the almighty $$$$$$. How do you get the $$$$$$? BY WINNING!!!! Gasp! I know this is a revelation for some of you! Take some deap breaths now! Do you really think Monty gives a flyin' rats a$$ whether MS or RB is winning? Or next year will Dennis care if KR or JPM crosses the finish line first? HELL NO! I know this blows all the conspiracy guys into depression, but it's not rocket science!!! Who is winning? THere is your number 1. Period. Who consistantly kicks his 'mates a$$? There is your number 1. Period. If you still don't get it, talk to your wives, performance matters.

Interesting Jim, but Ron Dennis I would judge as being pretty money orientated and he has managed to have two #1 drivers in the past and will possibly have two#1 drivers next year. It is a sport after all and can only survive as such.
