Heres some new stuff, It was on the cover of this month's Popular Mechanics. Seems another billionaire from Vegas bought some inflatable units that NASA stupidly decided to stop research on. Probably because they were not super duper expensive enough or the manufacturer did not properly line some Senators wallet. Anyways he's announced a new Space Prize. $50M for anyone who can design, build & carry 5 people up to his space hotel. Cost will start around $1M per night but the view will be out of this world :) Haven't figured out if its publicly traded yet. Some part of it must be & I'm buying into that. I saw 110% return on my SpaceDev stock when they won the X Prize so its not all smoke & mirrors. Besides I bet Branson would love to have a hotel as his destination

I saw Volvo offering a chance to win a trip to space in their new promotion. Is it just me or is Technology just moving so fast? I wonder whats been going on with the elevator to space idea; seems like that might work out in near future too.

This stuff should have happened back in the 70s or 80s at the latest but the knuckleheads in DC screwed all the plans up

William, I think that we should get ahead of the game right now. Let's buy up some old beat up Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space capsules before they skyrocket(!) in value and sponsor some vintage spacecraft races. The baby boomers will pay big bucks to remember the days when real men road rockets that belched flames from hypergolic fuel mixtures. First one to the moon wins the first leg of the competition and gets his choice of a used lunar rover and the chance to compete in the Armstrong Sea of Tranquility 500.

I thought the space elevator was just waiting for the carbon nanotube tech to catch up. Any ideas?

I love the whole idea. 2001 is great (the trip up to the moon), and I like Gibsons vision of a floating hotel too (a lot more!).

Doesn't Rutan have a three-tiered program that ultimately ends up at this stage?
