Of all the Ferraris I've ever seen, there have only been 2 that I didn't particularly care for. The 308 GT4 and the 400i. I've seen them both and they both caught my attention, but they didn't make me want one like the rest. Don't get me wrong; they're both very nice cars. Which modern (1990 and newer) Ferraris do you think will be viewed this way in the future? And which do you think will be considered "not real" Ferraris? I know a lot of people ask 308/328 owners when they'll buy a "real" Ferrari. I personally like them both though and don't really understand why they're not labeled "real".

    Ugh... another styling bashing thread.

In case you haven't figured it out, a lot of people BOUGHT modern cars. They must have liked them and they must still like them because they still own them.

Sure, style can go our of style but its unusual that an exotic car that was popular will suddenly be considered "ugly" one day.

BTW: I like the GT4 and the 400. So, I guess I'm proof that not eveyone agrees in what is ugly and what is attractive.

Do I like them as much as a 250 California spider or a Lusso or GTO (250 or 288)? No, but so what. I can like those other icons of the 60's and 70's... Sophia Loren and Raquel Welch.. at the same time too.

The 2+2 Ferraris never seem to age well in the market's view, so if you're looking for which ones will be least sought after in the long term it's probably the usual suspects: 456, 612, California, FF.

The market also seems not to favor the 348 and Testarossa's styling.

As to what's a "real" Ferrari, that's a question with dozens of different answers. A common cutoff is the end of Enzo era, when Fiat bought the company: so, the Daytona and Dino would be the last "real" Ferraris. Other people point to the death of Enzo Ferrari, so the F40, and 328 and Testarossa were the last "real" ones. It's kind of arbitrary, as they still stick the badge on every car that leaves the factory.

Threre are no ugly Ferraris IMO. :D:D

Some people like their model more than others. :D:D

I LOVE my 348, for example. But not everyone does. Its always going to be a personal choice. :):)

Id rather my 348 over my friends 360. :):)

Agreed except I think the TR, 348 and 355 all suffer from very high running costs more than aesthetics, especially the 355. I believe that if the 355 running costs and reliability was on the same level as a 360, the price would be very close and maybe even exceed 360s in the long run.

Not a bashing thread; re-read my post. I didn't say the 308 GT4 and 400i were ugly, I just don't like them as much as the rest and was wondering what everyone else thought.

The 575 Superamerica was not Ferrari's most elegant design.

Mondial QV in any color other than black has the huge black bumpers which make them slightly ungainly.

The FF will probably sell well, but will age quickly, IMO.

Interesting, down here 355's are worth more than 360s on the used market, though this could be due to the fact there are more of them.

Regarding styling, must be honest I didnt like the 400i but lately the shape has really grown on me.

My guess is as long as Ferrari Chat exists, it will never get away from threads like this.

Besides the obvious that opinions are like rear ends, some of you miss the point that Ferrari builds and sells NEW cars. So far, the company has been able to sell EVERY car it makes. Consequently, I doubt SpA will ever give a hoot what you and I think.

    Carry on.

The reason I didn't like the 400i may have been the color I saw it in. It was washed out gray...

bdelp: Sophia Lauren and Raquel Welch have NO styling errors nor are they even subject to opinion on this as you may have inferred in comparing your favorites. Bye the way I agree with you.

Now the FF and the FPU ( the new Ferrari pickup, maybe?) do set up nicely for debate.

Sorry Kevin but you brought up two specific cars under a thread called "ugly duckings". I'm not sure how else to interpret this.

It just gets tiring to hear people say to owners "your car is ugly" and then 20 people follow up with a +1.

Last point; we would all have something better to discuss if only they would get that top off the 458 so my life could move on.I would bore no one on this board because I would be either driving the car, sitting in it or looking at it in the garage.

Not sure about service/parts prices in South Africa, but in the US the 355 is stupidly expensive to service.

That is almost certainly going to continue to drive prices down.

As far as design, the 355 is one of the cleaner 'wedge' cars and lacks the bloat of the later models, so I don't think it will ever be regarded as an 'ugly duckling' from a styling perspective.

    Interesting....

I think the 308GT4 is aging exceptionally well.

My vote for less appealing Ferraris go to the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, Ferrari 599, and Ferrari California! These may drop like a rock in value compared to Ferrari F430 and Ferrari 458 Italia. I don't find these as exotic looking compared to the 360, F430 and 458 Italia. Nice GT cars but not really cars that would draw a lot of attention in a valet parking lot. I do like these Ferraris and if someone gave me one, I would not complain.

If it says "Ferrari", it's a Ferrari. Exceptions:

    -A Dino Is a Ferrari.

-A replicar based on a Fiero, Corvette, or other non-Ferrari chassis and engine Isn't a Ferrari.

-A replicar based on a Ferrari chassis and engine Is a Ferrari. The ethical implications of such are for another discussion.

A Ferrari with engine replaced by an American one but is otherwise reasonably original is a butchered but redeemable Ferrari, as is a Ferrari with original everything and and a body that has been amateurishly restyled.

Regarding the 308 GT4, 365 GT/4 2+2, 400i, and 412, these cars are great looking in the right color (same applies to any model) and I certainly wouldn't turn down the right example of any of them.

I see what you mean. My thread title kinda contradicts what I'm trying to get at. What I was asking is which current Ferraris will be "bashed" in the future. I wasn't trying to bash the 308 GT4 and the 400i; I just said I didn't care for them as much as the others.

btw, PLEASE don't think I'm trying to bash anyone's car; I'm not. I don't have a Ferrari, therefore I cannot say anything. I just though this would be a cool thread. I was wrong. Oh well.

I agree with you on the 612. It's too elongated, but it's still a pretty car. I've seen a light blue 599 HGTE and I thought it looked spectacular. The California looks good to me with the top up. It just kinda looks like a bowl with the top down.

okay...here's how to end this kind of debate.......put any production Ferrari beside an AMC pacer or a pinto = therefore, all Ferrari's have thier own beauty! :)

I think the 456 and the 575 SA are ugly ducklings of the modern era. And perhaps the 348 GTS.
However, I do love the 612, the Barchetta and the 348 Spider, so there is a fine line for me between duck and swan.

Pap they are both beautiful cars. I like the 348 and at the current market price they even look better... Thanks for the pic!
