I found this report... https://www.motor1.com/news/222525/ferrari-fxx-crash-monza/ It says the front suspension failed when it hit the curbing. Caused by an overshoot on a damp track. CW
Don’t think so! He was heading into a right turn and it looks like only track, berm and grass. Must have been in heavy braking and starting the turn and the front end failed... SV
This has been discussed before and if memory serves me well the suspension was damaged on a previous turn, where it hit the kerb hard, and then failed when it was loaded on the braking point before this turn.
I'm just glad it seems the driver is OK. I wish I could say more about the insurance besides when I used to get track insurance it would have covered this.
It's been a while since I've discussed on-track insurance with carriers, but, generally, it is possible to obtain insurance for track events at which there is no passing. That said, the premiums are very high. Usually, it makes economic sense to self-insure (premium and deductible don't exceed the repair costs). This will be an expensive repair, but the cost of damage is factored into the premium and deductible, so I could see a VERY high one for an FXX. The last time I explored race insurance, IIRC, there was a $15K premium and a $15K deductible. So, you're out $30K before you get paid a penny. We self-insured, FYI. CW
Thanks Corners, very detailed post, ITV's was just by curiosity... I think also that damage . Will be expensive for a crash like this one. Anyway, the guy is safe and lesson learned.
