Has anyone ever used this gismo or know any thing about it? There advertised on Speed Channel. I searched on line at gtechprob and it was advertised for $30 bucks.

Does it work and is it worth the $200? Are there different models...maybe that's why the one I saw advertised was only $30. Maybe a ripoff.

It is a pretty interesting item. I read a comparison test in -I think- Grassroots Mototsports before I bought mine. They made some good comments about it. You have to enter the weight of your car for accuracy which can be a guessing game for some. I did a bunch of 0-60 runs in a highly modified VW Scirocco that I own and the times were all within 0.2 of each other. It was fun finding out how to hit 60 the fastest. In my case it required about a 4000 rpm wheel spin launch. Just pulling away normally didn't get it. It will also map a roadcourse for you and you can go back afterwards and see your times and rpms at different points on the course. I have enjoyed mine.

I can't remember which, but either Road & Track or Car & Driver did a pretty thorough test on 8 such devices in the last month or two. See if you can track down that article.

Long and short of it was that G-Tech was pretty accurate for the money.

For $30? I don't think you can beat that deal, older model or not. I just bought one.

Just saw the product line of the G-techpro and the model for $30 is the 1994 model and no longer available. There were four models 1994 and 2001 both unavailible now then there is the 2004 SS $199.99 and 2004 RR $299.99 versions. What the heck I can have $30 worth of fun with the old verison. The new models would be for the serious racer. With the money I save I can take the wife out to dinner and she will be so greatful she won't say anything about me being senile and buying more toys. At least that's my plan.

and it works fine but cost about 10 times that. Can't speak for how their instrumentation worked a decade ago but for the price, little to loose I guess. Good luck and have fun.

Any recent opinion on GTechPro RR owners ? I am thinking of buying one to get some objective comparisons between cars. I am not that interested in the absolute figures as long as the repeatability is good.

This is the unit I have, bought it new way back when. This unit and the ones that follow are not 'cheap' internally, they are quality and quite accurate. Naturally, the results are only as good as the nut behind the wheel following the instructions.

I used mine for 0-60 timing and lateral g's. Also use it for the 1/4-mile timings and, as mentioned above, a little bit of wheel spin in my '95 VW Jetta gave me the quickest times.

The unit is good for performing a baseline, making one change, and running again to see if the one change made a difference. For those who don't have a dyno or test track and do their own work/mods then I would recommend it.

BTW, I used a truck scale to get the weight of my car. Many of them along I-5 and at night they aren't really used, and they're always on.

I finally got one and I have had a lot of fun with it. I bought the Gtech PRO SS at Titan Motorsport www.titanmotorsport.com for $180 back in Dec. I think it was a special sales promotion. I don't race but for someone who does I would think it could be very helpful. Any comments I've heard have been positive and for what you are going to use it for I think it would be great. This thing is very accurate so it's good for comparisons.

Unless it is a refurbished unit that previously failed.

Yes, the market place where the seller never has to see the buyer and can slide remanufactured obsolete units with no guarantee.
There is a reason why they sell these on Ebay...
