Anyone fly into this area? Which airport would you recommend for GA? Triple W? Horace Williams?

    Thanks

KTTA; good FBO and easy to get and out from.

Looks like KIGX has cheaper AVgas if that matters.

KIGX has poor runways and limited approaches. Also further away from NC State

Closest to PNC is RDU .

RDU is the only reasonable solution-anything else will be an "adventure"

Thanks guys, I hear the traffic is not so good in that area! So RDU or the 30 mile drive from KTTA. Still better than the drive from Clemson.

Sounds like someone who is not only not a pilot but also unfamiliar with GA airports.

Getting in an out from a GA airport versus a commercial airport is many times faster. Services are often better and fuel drastically cheaper...

KTTA is well situated for north Raleigh. But of course RDU can do the trick too if you are willing to pay landing fees, high 100LL AVGas prices and wait for taxi clearance from ground control.

997-if RDU is so bad, why did the University flying Doctor service stop using your Chapel Hill apt and move their flight ops to RDU? 40 years of coporate and airline flying out of Greensboro has taught me just a little bit about how to get a client to a destination in an efficient manner.

If you read my comments correctly you see that I said KIGX sucks and that KTTA is a better way to go for north Raleigh. If you have 40 years flying experience you'd agree with me that flying in and out of a class C or larger requires significantly more time for GA than in and out of a non controlled executive Airport with self serve and full service AV has available as well as multiple approaches....

RDU is not a bad choice, KTTA is just a better choice.

Safety as well as dispatch reliability should always be a part of the equation. The trade off of an airport further away (more driving) with less runway options (especially in adverse weather) for some cheap fuel and to potentially save a few minutes on the ground awaiting release (no guarantee of that) as opposed to lots of big wide runways with real crash help if needed and all the other advantages of a medium sized airport is just not a good enough bargain for a conservative old pilot like me. Different strokes.
