What are the new must haves if building a new construction house as far as electronics. I am still a few weeks away from drywall on my beach house and want to make sure I have it wired properly for the latest and greatest. I have something called a fireball ordered for music and a dvd management system so that any bedroom can pull up a library of the movies on screen and play whatever they want in each room but what other cool stuff is available?

    Thanks

You should also have a satelite link for full wireless internet browsing. Another cool thing would be touch screen everything. Don't forget remotes though, it gets annoying having to walk up and touch everything.

Drill the studs for speaker wire and wire EVERY room in the house. Aslo, don't forget the cable drop in the kitchen for the under cabinet flip down TV.

At least eight pair of category 6a from every room to a central distribution panel -- with room and power for an ethernet switch there.

Two 75 ohm coax from every entertainment room back to a distribution panel for digital cable or satellite/dual tuner DVR (with space/power for a multi-switch).

That, and check HP's web site for the current (and new in late 05) media hub and entertainment centers. (The current multimedia XP / X-box combo can distribute NTSB tv. HP's new (late 05) (Linux based) unit will support HDTV.)

Depending on the layout of the house, the best thing you could do would be to leave wiring conduits with pull cords. In five years, everything might switch to fiber, or to thin wires, or to unobtanium. Being able to pull new wires after the drywall goes on is a hedge against the future ... but costs more up front.

I am not murcilago, just using his computer, see username cab7104!! I wish I wasn't so dumb!

I personally think that the Smarthome stuff is pretty cool. www.smarthome.com is the website that has a good guide, and they sell the stuff too. That is my personal tech thing... all my lights are on remote control, you can program them out by computer to come on and off at a designated time or give a "lived in look". Overall, they have some pretty neat technology. It seems like you already have some pretty good decisions in there. I would say go with the powered ethernet cables, that seems to be the next step. Depends on how indepth you want to go, they can make your home wired, and make it monitorable from the net so you can check up on it. Pretty cool stuff.

We have the security cameras tied into the A/V distribution system and it is great. You just change channels on any TV in the house to see various cameras. Best gadget in my house!

This is one of the things they are doing. I have it in my real home. I am having 3 coax cables and ethernet/phone to each room that homerun back to a central location. 2 coax for Sat with tivo and one for regular cable. They are working on a lighting system and suggest the newest Pronto color remotes. I will ask about conduit for the future, not a bad idea. With the alarm system, you can call the house and change the thermostat and see who has been in. There is really some cool stuff these days but the tech. moves so quickly I am sure in a year or two it will be totally different.
